Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jake Shields!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Wladimir Kuslovich!
The judges for this bout are Ben Hemmingworth, Topper Green and Chris Dean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Shields fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Kuslovich to the ground. Shields is now in Kuslovich's guard.
Kuslovich is trying to control the position but Shields postures up.

Kuslovich working for a triangle but Shields defends it easily.
Shields keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Kuslovich's head.

Kuslovich is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Kuslovich has his foot on Shields's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Shields works his way back into a safe position though.
Shields has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Shields postures up in Kuslovich's guard and throws a big left but Kuslovich blocks it.

Shields stands up over Kuslovich, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Shields slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Kuslovich is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Shields defends well.

Kuslovich is looking for a triangle but Shields pushes his legs off easily.

Shields drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Shields jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Shields is pushing down on Kuslovich's leg trying to pass to half guard. Kuslovich is fighting to maintain full guard but Shields has managed to sneak the leg through.
Kuslovich is trying to get back to full guard.

Shields slips a nice elbow through Kuslovich's hands, connecting with Kuslovich's forehead.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Kuslovich looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Shields pushes past his half guard into mount!
Kuslovich wants to control but Shields is having none of it.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Kuslovich is still in real trouble! Can Shields finish him?

Shields is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Shields is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Shields connects with a nice short shot to Kuslovich's temple.

Shields is trying to control. Kuslovich wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Kuslovich is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Shields scores with a couple of nice shots.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Shields is working for a submission of some sort.

Shields is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Kuslovich is just riding it out for now. Shields eventually gives up the hold.
Shields throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Kuslovich has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Shields escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Shields!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Kuslovich shoots for a double leg takedown but Shields sprawls well. He's pushed Kuslovich's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Shields scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Shields is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Kuslovich knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Shields thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Shields has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Kuslovich is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Shields yanks on the arm and Kuslovich is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Shields.
