PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Shalako Carlin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Genghis Khan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Khan has chosen Mongol as his entrance music. Shalako Carlin had a look across the ring there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Shalako Carlin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Genghis Khan!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Yukihiro Shimada and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Khan swings widly with a right hand

and Carlin counters by moving into the clinch.
Carlin misses with a knee strike.
Khan has a couple of punches blocked by Carlin.
Carlin has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Carlin landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
Khan lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Khan gets through Carlin's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Carlin softening up his opponent with strikes, against the ropes.
Khan can't find room to land a body shot as Carlin controls the action.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Khan escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Carlin lands with a good body shot.

Khan throws a right hand that Carlin ducks under and follows up with a left that Carlin also avoids with ease.
Carlin avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Carlin tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Khan was well out of range. Poor timing from Carlin.
Khan misses the jab.
Khan circles away from the clinch attempt.
Khan connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Carlin momentarily.
Carlin connects with a jab.
Khan throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Genghis Khan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Carlin tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Khan paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Carlin tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Khan paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Khan ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Carlin moves away.
Khan swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Carlin wants to clinch
and Khan counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Carlin has Khan up against the ropes in a clinch.

Carlin breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Khan throws a right and a left that Carlin avoids nicely.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Khan jabs Carlin to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Carlin is looking to clinch.
Khan lands a really nice looking cross but Carlin seems unphased.
A telegraphed right hand from Khan misses the target.
Carlin takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Carlin closes this distance looking for a takedown but Khan circles away.
Khan throws a body punch but Carlin moves out of range.
Carlin throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Khan's waist but Khan gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Carlin off to one side.

Horrible takedown by Carlin or perhaps it was just good defense by Khan which made him look bad.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shalako Carlin. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Carlin closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Carlin wants to control but Khan is keeping him busy.

Carlin is thwarting Khan's attempts to control the position.

Carlin looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Carlin wants to stand but Khan has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Shalako Carlin will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Khan looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Carlin avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
The fight stays on the outside here - Carlin looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Khan looks to land a left hand but Carlin moved out of range nicely.

and Carlin counters with a left and a right that stings Khan.
Khan fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

and Carlin counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Carlin tries to pass the half guard into mount. Khan knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Carlin tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Khan.
Khan wants to improve his position but Carlin is controlling well.

Carlin is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Carlin is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Khan sees it coming and defends easily.

Khan is staying active underneath Carlin, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Khan is looking to get back to full guard here but Carlin has managed to pass to side control instead.

Carlin tries to stand but Khan is controlling his head.
Khan manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Khan is doing well to control the position and prevent Carlin from advancing to side control.
Carlin wants to stand but Khan has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

Carlin is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Khan defends it well.

Carlin tries to close the distance and clinch up but Khan swats him away and circles back towards the center.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shalako Carlin dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Carlin takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Carlin fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Carlin shoots in looking for a takedown but Khan manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Carlin's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Khan lands with a cross.
Carlin is looking to wear down Khan with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Khan swings for the body but Carlin moves out of range.

Khan fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Carlin manages to avoid it.
Carlin tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Khan paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Khan throws an overhand right that lands on Carlin's shoulder, as Carlin tries to avoid the shot.

Khan misses with an uppercut. Carlin saw that one coming.
Khan scores with a hook to the body. Carlin takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Khan lands with a straight right. Carlin didn't see that one coming.

Carlin throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Khan cracks Carlin with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the ropes.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

and Carlin counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Carlin.
Carlin pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the ropes.
Khan jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Carlin walks away with a smile on his face. Khan gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

and Carlin counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Khan is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Khan goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

and Khan counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Khan throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Khan swings for the body but Carlin moves out of range.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Carlin slips a jab and a cross from Khan.
Khan throws a jab but it's blocked by Carlin.
Carlin displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Khan throws out the jab.
Khan looks to score with a jab to the body but Carlin is just out of range.
Carlin misses with an uppercut.
Khan lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Carlin circles away quickly and effectively.
A looping hook to the body misses from Khan. Carlin does a little dance to reset his feet.
Carlin moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

Carlin misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Carlin misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shalako Carlin. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Carlin tries to clinch but Khan moves out of range.
Khan jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Shalako Carlin is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Khan is pinned up against the ropes taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Genghis Khan comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
