PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Keith Raw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Walter Sullivan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Raw comes to the cage accompanied by DMX - X Gonna Give It To Ya. Sullivan has chosen Akira Yamaoka - Room of Angel as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Keith Raw!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Walter Sullivan!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Chris Downing and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sullivan rushes in with a sloppy looking punch

and Raw counters with a nice double leg into side control. Sullivan won't be happy with that.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Sullivan taking a bit of punishment here - Raw scoring with strikes.
Sullivan defending against the ground and pound.
Raw in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Sullivan wants to get back to his feet but Raw drags him back down.
Raw trying to control the position but Sullivan is working away.
Sullivan tries to buck Raw off but Raw is having none of it.

Sullivan is not content to let Raw control the position.

Sullivan is pushing Raw's head away, looking to escape. Raw manages to hold on to the position though.
Raw cracks Sullivan with an elbow. That is naaassty.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sullivan wants to improve his position but Raw is controlling well.
Raw wants to control but Sullivan is keeping him busy.

Sullivan is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Raw jumps into side control!

Raw is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Sullivan has escaped the position, nice work there.
Sullivan sneaks back into half guard.
Sullivan is refusing to be controlled, as Raw sits in half guard.

Raw moves nicely into side control.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Raw remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Raw wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Sullivan, who protects the arm well.
Sullivan is pushing Raw's head away, looking to escape. Raw manages to hold on to the position though.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Raw remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Sullivan is squirming around, avoiding Raw's attempts to control the action.

Raw looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Sullivan dips to his left and cracks Raw with an uppercut!

Raw gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Sullivan.
Raw is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Sullivan is defending well.

Sullivan pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Sullivan misses with a wild combination.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Raw is defended easily by Sullivan.
We've been told by Raw's head coaches at Soul Supremacy Elite Gym that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Keith Raw. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Sullivan lands a lovely overhand right.

Sullivan throws a jab when Raw was well out of range.
Sullivan throws a series of punches but Raw moves out of range.
Some wild striking there from Raw.
A punch combination from Sullivan misses.

Sullivan feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Raw squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Sullivan thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Sullivan trying to control but Raw is having none of it.
Keith Raw overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Raw wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Sullivan tries to control but Raw wriggling away.

Raw tries to hold on but Sullivan postures up.

Raw has left one of his arms exposed and Sullivan doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Raw screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.
