PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Hans Hansen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tiago Mendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mendez comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Trap Door kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Tiago Mendez will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Hans Hansen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Tiago Mendez!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, James Ackerman and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hansen looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Mendez tries to get to full guard but Hansen has control of the leg.
Hansen not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Hansen is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Hansen thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Mendez's head.

Hansen knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mendez on the ground.
Hansen looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Mendez with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Mendez kicks off Hansen and gets to his feet.
Mendez is looking to clinch but Hansen is avoiding it.

Hansen changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Mendez looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Mendez manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
This has been an exciting period of action!

Mendez is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Hansen has managed to free his arm - good work.

Mendez moves into side control, avoiding the strikes from Hansen.
Mendez wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hansen keeps working.

Mendez takes advantage of some sloppy striking from Hansen to pass into mount.

Mendez is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Hansen has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Mendez is working for a guillotine from mount but Hansen frees his head quite easily.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Hansen manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Hansen moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Mendez trying to control but Hansen is working from the bottom.
Mendez might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Hansen kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Hansen lands a nice short elbow.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Hansen connects with a nice short shot to Mendez's temple.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mendez wants to control but Hansen is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Hansen lands a nice short elbow.
Mendez wants to get back to full guard.

Hansen sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Mendez defending well though.

Hansen looks to land a strike but Mendez avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Hansen throws a strike but Mendez rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Hansen bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Mendez's guard.
Hansen might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Hansen thows a big elbow that misses.
Hansen landing some decent shots from guard.
Mendez is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Mendez decides to stand up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hans Hansen dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Mendez keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Hansen bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Mendez regains half guard.
Mendez works his way to full guard. Good work.

Hansen throws and elbow that misses. Mendez uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Hansen's guard. Nice move by Mendez!
Hans Hansen overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Mendez passes into half guard.

Mendez is working for a submission of some sort.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mendez blocks the strikes from Hansen.
Hansen is striking from the bottom but he's now found himself mounted! Oh dear - not enough focus on defense there.
Hansen tries to improve his position but instead Mendez has taken his back!
Mendez keeps control of the position as Hansen tries to break free.

Mendez is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Hansen with him. Hansen is trying to defend but Mendez has an arm under the chin now! Hansen grimaces and is forced to tap out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:04 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Tiago Mendez!
