Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dalton Figueroa! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Damian Slater! The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Ivan Kurochkin and Aleksei Zolotukhin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Slater decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Slater seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Figueroa missing with punches from the bottom.
Slater looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Damian Slater. Figueroa tries to clinch but Slater is having none of it. Excellent takedown into side control there by Slater. A lull in the action here as Slater stalls from top position. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
That's one minute gone in the round. Figueroa wants to control but Slater postures up. Figueroa is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Figueroa is not content to let Slater control the position. Slater staying calm. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Damian Slater was stalling too much, according to the referee. Slater shoots in for a takedown and gets it. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Slater is working for a kimura but Figueroa is defending it quite comfortably.
Figueroa wants to control but Slater is keeping busy.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Damian Slater wasn't active enough on the ground. Slater looking to score a takedown here. Figueroa is defending well but Slater drives through and ends up in Figueroa's guard. Slater wants to get up but he can't break Figueroa's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Slater scoring with punches to the head and body. That's four minutes gone in the round. Figueroa lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Slater! We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Slater can do anything to dispel that myth. Figueroa avoids the attempt from Slater to control. Slater regains half guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Slater is looking to escape. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Figueroa seems to be looking for submissions.

Damian Slater dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Slater looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Slater is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Figueroa has managed to free his arm - good work. Figueroa is trying to control but can't.
Slater is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard. Figueroa is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Slater wants to control from the top but Figueroa keeps moving. Figueroa looking for a guillotine here but Slater defends easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Figueroa is on top in guard.
Figueroa has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Slater is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Figueroa is aware though and is defending well. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Figueroa won't allow Slater to sweep him here. Slater has control of Figueroa's left arm, preventing Figueroa from doing any damage. Slater manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Slater raining down hammerfists from mount. Slater looking to finish Figueroa with some ground and pound. This is bad for Figueroa! Slater controlling from mount. Figueroa is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. This has been an exciting period of action! Slater looking to secure an arm triangle but Figueroa defends it well.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Slater landing strikes from the mount and Figueroa is in trouble! Slater controlling the position easily from mount. Slater is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Figueroa has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Slater lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Figueroa bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done! Slater controlling Figueroa's posture.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Slater is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Figueroa is controlling him. Slater looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Slater throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Figueroa escapes and throws Slater's legs to the side, diving into side control! Slater is breathing heavily. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Slater manages to get back to half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Damian Slater showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

That's one minute gone in the round. A frustrated look appears on Figueroa's face as he tries to break the clinch. Slater tries to land knees in the clinch but Figueroa avoids the damage to the body. Slater fails to pull guard.

Slater wants to stand but Figueroa is controlling the position. Slater takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Slater looking for a guillotine here but Figueroa defends easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Slater utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Slater wants to stand up but Figueroa is controlling him. Slater manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Slater tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Figueroa tries to lock up and control but Slater gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Slater has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Figueroa's face.
Figueroa is looking to get to half guard. Slater has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Slater is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Figueroa to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Figueroa shrugs it off. Figueroa really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Slater looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Slater trying to control but he's not successful this time.
And that's the end of the fight! Damian Slater comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Slater has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
