Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Rory Kirkpatrick (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Demian Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rory Kirkpatrick had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Rory Kirkpatrick!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Demian Silva!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Michael Johnstone and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kirkpatrick drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Kirkpatrick goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Silva has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Kirkpatrick but great work by Silva.
Kirkpatrick is trying to control Silva's posture but Silva avoids it.

Silva tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Silva has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Kirkpatrick tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Silva wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Kirkpatrick is working hard here to advance position.

Silva wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Kirkpatrick, who protects the arm well.
Silva gets to mount! Kirkpatrick was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Silva prevents Kirkpatrick from getting the reversal.
Silva unloads with some shots from mount but Kirkpatrick bucks and avoids them well.

Silva is thwarting Kirkpatrick's attempts to control the position.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Kirkpatrick really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Silva decides to stand back up.

Silva postures up in Kirkpatrick's guard and throws a big left but Kirkpatrick blocks it.
Kirkpatrick looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Silva puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Silva is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Kirkpatrick is looking to control Silva's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Kirkpatrick avoid being mounted?
Kirkpatrick is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Silva seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Kirkpatrick does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Well, if Silva is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Silva is keen to just control but Kirkpatrick is a slippery customer.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Demian Silva wasn't active enough on the ground.
Silva shoots in for a double leg but Kirkpatrick sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Kirkpatrick changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Silva tries to avoid it but Kirkpatrick manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Silva to the ground. Silva escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Kirkpatrick connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Silva takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


A nice combination there by Kirkpatrick.
Kirkpatrick throws a low kick, looking for Silva's leg but Silva calmly moves out of range.

Kirkpatrick will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Silva stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Kirkpatrick.

Silva shoots for a double leg takedown but Kirkpatrick sprawls well. He's pushed Silva's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Good leg kick by Kirkpatrick there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Silva gets caught flat footed, as Kirkpatrick shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Rory Kirkpatrick.
Kirkpatrick sizes up Silva with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Kirkpatrick seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.

Silva closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Kirkpatrick did well to prevent Silva getting side control.
Rory Kirkpatrick overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

That's time! Kirkpatrick's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Kirkpatrick shoots in looking for a takedown. Silva tries to sprawl out of it but Kirkpatrick keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Silva manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Silva is trying to pull guard but Kirkpatrick turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
