Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Derick House! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Murad Tsekunov! The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Ivan Kurochkin and Vladimir Khabensky.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Tsekunov misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Tsekunov drives through with a takedown into guard. Tsekunov slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Tsekunov lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Tsekunov content to stall in guard here. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Murad Tsekunov was stalling too much, according to the referee. Tsekunov drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Tsekunov stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. House swivels though and keeps the full guard. Tsekunov wanted to stand there but House had control of the position. That's two minutes gone in the round. It looks like Tsekunov might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Murad Tsekunov. Tsekunov gets the takedown into side control. House is being controlled here. House takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! House dodges the ground and pound from Tsekunov. Tsekunov content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Tsekunov scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at House to see if he's OK. House tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Tsekunov wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Tsekunov advances to mount. Tsekunov looking to isolate an arm here. House doesn't see it coming and as Tsekunov extends the arm, he's forced to tap out! Nice submission by Tsekunov!
