PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Stephen Bain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Terry Umstedd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Stephen Bain!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Terry Umstedd!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Alan Glass and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bain tries to close the distance and clinch but Umstedd swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Umstedd lands a nice hook to Bain's body. Bain takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Terry Umstedd seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Umstedd tries for a takedown but Bain sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Umstedd throws a low kick but it's checked well by Bain.

Bain takes the fight into the clinch.
Bain goes for a takedown attempt but Umstedd pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Bain moves into range and clinches up with Umstedd.
Umstedd stops a takedown attempt from Bain.
Knees in the clinch landing for Bain.
Umstedd is pressed up against the cage. Bain has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Umstedd down to the mat. Umstedd avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Umstedd misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
A decent looking cross lands there for Umstedd.

Umstedd feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Umstedd pushes Bain away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Bain gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bain wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Umstedd, who protects the arm well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bain thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Bain throws an elbow but Umstedd slips to the side and avoids it well.
Bain trying to control the position but Umstedd is working away.
Umstedd is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Bain is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Umstedd is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Bain has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Umstedd finds it's way round the side to connect with Bain's head.
Umstedd looks to land a body kick but Bain moved away.
Bain has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Bain there as he acknowledges the shot.
Umstedd closes the distance but Bain moves to the side

and Bain counters by moving into the clinch.

Bain scores a nice knee to the body.
Bain landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
Umstedd on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Umstedd wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Bain has him pressed against the cage.

Bain tries to pull guard but Umstedd won't allow it.
Bain tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Bain struggles to land a body shot inside as Umstedd controls his hands.

Bain really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Umstedd throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Bain.

Bain digs a right hand underneath Umstedd's ribcage. Umstedd let out a lung full of air as it connected.

Bain has hold of Umstedd's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Umstedd manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Umstedd swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.
Bain tries to control but Umstedd wriggling away.
Umstedd wants to try and get back to his feet.
Umstedd is trying to reverse the position but instead Bain has taken his back - oops!
Umstedd can't escape the position.

Bain looking to break Umstedd's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Umstedd remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Bain will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
Umstedd looking very determined here, making life difficult for Bain.

Bain is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Umstedd knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Umstedd for a finish.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Bain, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
