PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Thomas Hawk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Black (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hawk's entrance music is Call to Arms. A fine choice. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Thomas Hawk! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mark Black! The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, George Francis and Robert Twigg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hawk throws a right hand that Black ducks under and follows up with a left that Black also avoids with ease. No joy there for Hawk, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Black drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. This fight is sponsored by Chainsaw 7. More blood and guts and stuff like that, in cinemas everywhere now! Hawk wants to control but Black postures up. Black trying to control the position but Hawk is working away. Hawk manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Hawk is controlling Black's trapped leg to prevent Black from advancing to side control. Black really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hawk. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Black wants to stand up but Hawk is controlling the position.
Hawk is doing well to control the position and prevent Black from advancing to side control.
That's one minute gone in the round.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Hawk misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Hawk throws a series of punches but Black moves out of range. Hawk gets tackled into the cage by Black. Black maintains the clinch. Hawk lands a takedown into guard.
Hawk stays in close to Black's body and controls the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Black keeping full guard, as Hawk tries to pass. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Black is on top in guard.
Hawk is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Black defends well. Black trying to control but Hawk is working from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hawk wants to sweep here but Black controlling him for the moment. Hawk wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Hawk is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Hawk is pulling down on Black's head to control his posture. Hawk on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Hawk tries to get out of the position. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Black would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Mark Black wasn't active enough on the ground. Hawk tries to bum rush Black with a series of wild strikes but Black uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Black moves into the clinch. Hawk tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked. Black has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate. Black tries a knee to the head but Hawk blocks it.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Hawk. Black jumps into guard, dragging Hawk to the mat.
Black looks winded! Hawk is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Hawk has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Black is proving hard to escape from. Hawk controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Hawk's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Hawk showing good wrestling skills to control the position. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Hawk stands and throws Black's legs to the side, diving into side control. Hawk is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Black will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Hawk has hold of Black's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Black seems comfortable defending it but Hawk has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Black is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Black is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Hawk couldn't care less - he's delighted!
