The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Famianto throws a right hand that misses
and Sonnen counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Sonnen throws the kick towards the body but Famianto avoids it.
Famianto circles away from the clinch attempt.
Sonnen shoots in for a takedown but Famianto shows good takedown defense.

Famianto moves into range and clinches up with Sonnen.

Famianto decides to pull guard.
Famianto is adopting a defensive guard.

Famianto has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Sonnen has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Famianto has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Sonnen uses from the top position.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Sonnen rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Famianto moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Famianto tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Famianto decides to stand up, so the ref orders Sonnen to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alif Famianto dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
