Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jimmy Padilla (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Thomas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Chris Thomas enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jimmy Padilla!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Chris Thomas!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Padilla enables Thomas to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Padilla manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Padilla tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Thomas is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Padilla has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Thomas can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Padilla bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Thomas's guard.
Thomas is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Padilla tries to stand but Thomas is controlling from the bottom.

Padilla postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Thomas is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Padilla, into his guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Padilla lands a good elbow from the bottom.

Padilla is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Thomas must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Padilla working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Thomas doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Thomas manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Padilla has his foot on Thomas's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Thomas works his way back into a safe position though.
Padilla really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Thomas is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Thomas really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Padilla. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Padilla is on top in guard.

Padilla has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Thomas is proving hard to escape from.

Padilla gets to his feet - Thomas follows without any prompting.

Padilla gets caught flat footed, as Thomas shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Padilla is pulling down on Thomas's head. It's preventing any offense from Thomas, at least for the moment.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Jimmy Padilla.

Thomas closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Padilla quickly recovers to half guard.

Padilla is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Thomas defends well.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Padilla escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Thomas gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Padilla has his foot on Thomas's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Thomas works his way back into a safe position though.

Padilla stands and steps away. Thomas gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Thomas turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Padilla tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Thomas wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Thomas has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Thomas misses with a wild combination.

Thomas throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Padilla was covering up waiting for the punch and Thomas finishes the takedown easily into guard.

This has been an exciting period of action!

That was a close second round but I would say that Jimmy Padilla will probably get the nod.
That's time! Padilla's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. And we move into the final round!



Thomas shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Padilla manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Padilla is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Thomas is looking to control Padilla's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Thomas avoid being mounted?
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Padilla tries to sprawl but Thomas drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Thomas takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Padilla flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Thomas seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Padilla does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Thomas looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Padilla with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Padilla gets back to full guard.
Padilla wants to sweep but no luck.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Thomas accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Thomas has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Padilla to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Thomas is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Padilla pulls down on the head and he's put Thomas to sleep! This one is all over!
