The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rossovich throws a head kick that misses
letting Zol counter with a right hand.
Jay Zol seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Zol shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
We've been hearing reports that Zol has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

Zol shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Rossovich sprawls well. Rossovich wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Zol gets slowly back to his feet.

Rossovich tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Zol wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Zol pushes Rossovich away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Rossovich gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Rossovich decides to stand back up.
Zol shoots for a double leg takedown but Rossovich sprawls well. He's pushed Zol's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Zol closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Zol lands in his opponent's guard.
Zol has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
