Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 12 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Anzor Azhiev! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Brandon Joaquin! The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, David Hoff and Dirk Anderson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Joaquin stuffs the takedown. Joaquin misses with a double jab
and Azhiev counters with a single leg into guard. Joaquin didn't expect that. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Joaquin wants to stand up but Azhiev is controlling him. Joaquin is working an open guard so Azhiev takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Joaquin misses with a combination
and Azhiev counters with a slapping leg kick. Joaquin throws a combination that misses and Azhiev counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Joaquin's guard now. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Azhiev lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Azhiev thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Azhiev pushing down on Joaquin's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Joaquin wants to stand back up but Azhiev manages to pass into side control.
Azhiev has hold of Joaquin's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Joaquin seems comfortable defending it but Azhiev has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Joaquin is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Joaquin is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Azhiev couldn't care less - he's delighted!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Anzor Azhiev! Anzor Azhiev opened up his post fight interview with a scream to camera that he wants a title shot! Whether he deserves the shot will be up to the management of the organization, so I guess he'll have to wait and see.
