PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Billy Ford (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ralph Diagos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Diagos comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Untill it sleeps kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Ford has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Billy Ford! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Ralph Diagos! The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Bart Greer and David Hoff.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ford closes the distance and clinches. Ford looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this! Diagos works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Diagos controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Diagos is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Diagos's corner is telling him to maintain position. Ford looking to hit a scissor sweep but Diagos is one step ahead there. Diagos controlling from the top position.
Ralph Diagos has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. No luck for Diagos with that takedown attempt. Diagos shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Ford definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
That's one minute gone in the round. Still in half guard, Diagos seems content to control. Diagos seems to be looking for submissions.
Diagos is a very stocky fighter. Infact he's such a weird shape that he's almost like some sort of comedy character - it's hard to believe he's real. Diagos lands with a punch from half guard. Ford might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Diagos takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Ford trying to control here.
Diagos is controlling the pace.
Ford could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. It looks like Diagos might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ralph Diagos has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. Diagos fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Ford, pushing him back against the cage. Ford managing to block the knees to the body from Diagos.
Diagos works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Ford being controlled here, momentarily. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Ford will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

That's three minutes gone in the round. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Ralph Diagos wasn't active enough on the ground. Diagos throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Ford's waist but Ford gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Diagos off to one side. Ford throws a right and a left that both miss. Diagos closes the distance and clinches up with Ford, looking for a takedown. Diagos pushes Ford against the cage but Ford circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Billy Ford has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ralph Diagos. Diagos looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Diagos shoots in and drives through. Ford sprawls well. Ford closes the distance and clinches. Diagos escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Ford gets caught napping as Diagos dives in and scores a takedown. Ford manages to retain guard. Diagos is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Diagos connects with a couple of short punches. Ford wants to sweep here but Diagos controlling him for the moment. Diagos seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Ford can't keep his opponent in guard - Diagos advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Diagos in particular looking to stall. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Ralph Diagos was stalling too much, according to the referee. Ford rushes Diagos and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ralph Diagos dominated that round. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!
Diagos throws a sloppy head kick and Ford moves out of range easily. Diagos tries to score a power double leg takedown but Ford sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Diagos somewhat. Ford gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Diagos goes for a takedown attempt but Ford pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Diagos manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Ford on his heels. He'll look to pass Ford's guard now, I'm sure. Diagos scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Diagos's corner is telling him to maintain position. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Diagos stands and throws Ford's legs to the side, diving into side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Diagos is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Ford has escaped the position, nice work there. Diagos staying calm. Ford on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Ford tries to get out of the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Diagos has hold of Ford's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Ford tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Diagos cranks the arm and Ford screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Ford, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:22 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Ralph Diagos! Ralph Diagos decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
