PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kory Guerrero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ken Masters (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kory Guerrero!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ken Masters!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Guerrero tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Masters moves into the clinch.
Guerrero is trying to drag Masters to the mat but Masters just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Guerrero could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Masters pulls guard.
Guerrero might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Guerrero preventing the sweep.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Masters can do anything to dispel that myth.
Guerrero throwing strikes from guard but Masters blocks nicely.
Masters is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Masters looking to hit a scissor sweep but Guerrero is one step ahead there.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Ken Masters was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Masters.
Masters takes a little break here. Guerrero wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Masters trying to control the position but Guerrero is working away.
The referee asks Masters politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Masters prefers to stall for the moment though.

Masters scoring with punches and elbows.


It looks like Kory Guerrero has been cut.
Masters lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Masters tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Guerrero is looking to reverse the position.
Masters wants to lay and pray for a moment but Guerrero keeps working.
Guerrero tries to improve position but can't.
Masters wants to stand but Guerrero is controlling his arm.
Masters wants to control but Guerrero is keeping him busy.

Guerrero is looking to reverse the position.
Guerrero gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Guerrero looking for submissions off his back.

Guerrero looking for subs from the bottom but Masters mounts him!
Guerrero keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Masters stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

Masters looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Guerrero!
Guerrero is breathing heavily.
Guerrero manages to get back to half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Masters wants to take a breather but Guerrero is having none of it.

Guerrero looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Guerrero is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Masters's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Masters's back!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Masters covering up well and avoiding damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ken Masters dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Kory Guerrero's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Masters paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Masters fails in his attempt to clinch.

Masters gets a takedown into half guard.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Masters. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Masters is controlling the pace.
Let's hope that Masters has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Guerrero moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Ken Masters has got the better of the ground game so far.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Masters trying to control the position from guard on top but Guerrero is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Masters postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Guerrero throws his legs up looking for a submission but Masters uses it to pass to side control.
Guerrero misses with a strike from the bottom.
Masters staying calm.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Guerrero is looking for a sweep.
Masters really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Guerrero. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Masters tries to advance to mount but can't.
Masters working the body and head with strikes.
Masters tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Guerrero sneaks back into half guard.

Masters looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Guerrero moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Masters must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Masters is breathing heavily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Masters wants to control from the top but Guerrero keeps moving.
Masters wanted to stand there but Guerrero had control of the position.
Guerrero utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Masters is looking to work some ground and pound but Guerrero has wrist control.
Guerrero lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Masters!
Masters is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Masters is bucking up trying to escape but Guerrero cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Masters working to try and regain half guard.
Guerrero throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ken Masters showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! And we move into the final round!

Masters drags the fight down to the ground.
Masters controls Guerrero momentarily but Guerrero frees himself.
Masters avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Guerrero is looking to stand up but Masters won't let him.
Masters has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Ken Masters wasn't active enough on the ground.
Guerrero shoots in and drives through. Masters sprawls well.
Ken Masters seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Guerrero tries to clinch there but Masters circles away.

Masters has taken the fight to the clinch.
Guerrero is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Masters is defending well.
Masters tries to land knees in the clinch but Guerrero avoids the damage to the body.

Masters pulls guard effortlessly.

Guerrero gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Masters closes the distance and clinches.

Masters breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Guerrero darts in trying to clinch

and Masters counters with a crisp one two that drops Guerrero! Masters thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Guerrero to his feet! Guerrero is in big trouble!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Guerrero wants to clinch
enabling Masters to counter with a crisp jab.
Guerrero shoots for a takedown but Masters saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kory Guerrero. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Guerrero closes the distance looking to clinch
and Masters counters with a head kick that crumples his opponent - he's in a world of trouble! Masters looks at the referee who does nothing so Masters lands a crushing right that sends Guerrero to the floor! This time the ref steps in to end the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:28 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ken Masters!
