Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ricky Ponting (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kon Sai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sai has chosen Made In Thailand as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
19 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ricky Ponting! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
10 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Kon Sai! The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Skip Squint and Hugh Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ponting gets caught napping as Sai dives in and scores a takedown. Ponting manages to retain guard. Ponting is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Sydney Elite Systems that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet. Sai trying to control the position from guard on top but Ponting is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Sai prevents Ponting from getting back to his feet. Sai trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Ponting tries to land a sweep but no joy. Sai wants to control from the top but Ponting keeps moving.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Kon Sai wasn't active enough on the ground. Sai walks into a jab. We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Sai has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat. Sai tries to clinch up. Sai fails in his attempt to clinch. Ponting pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Ponting jabbing away but nothing is landing. Sai closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sai takes one to the chin there. Nice jab there from Ponting. Sai is trying hard to land a takedown here. Ponting sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Ponting dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Sai scoring well with a low kick there.
No luck for Ponting with that takedown attempt. Sai misses with a wild body shot. Sai wants to clinch. Ponting lands with a hook. Sai tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head. Ponting keeps the fight on the outside. Sai goes for a double leg but Ponting avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Ponting continues to drive forward. Ponting has had enough of the clinch but Sai keeps him there for the moment. Sai using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Ponting has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sai lands an elbow that stopped Ponting in his tracks for a moment. Ponting stops a takedown attempt from Sai.
Ricky Ponting has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kon Sai. Sai has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Ponting after a bit of a struggle. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Sai scores with a knee to the head.

A frustrated look appears on Ponting's face as he tries to break the clinch. Ponting wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Ponting is looking to break free of the clinch but Sai has double underhooks. Ponting is trying to break free. Ponting wants to break the clinch but can't.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Sai just misses with a elbow thrown towards Ponting's brow. Sai breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Sai changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Ponting tries to avoid it but Sai manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Ponting to the ground. Ponting escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Sai throws a right hand that misses
and Ponting counters with a straight punch to the midsection. Sai shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Ponting as he avoids it easily. Ponting misses with a series of wild punches.
Sai tries to clinch but Ponting is having none of it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sai takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Sai moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross. The crowd cheers as Ponting lands an impressive looking overhand right. Sai doesn't seem phased though. Ponting scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Sai doesn't seem bothered though. Ponting keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Sai throws a series of punches but Ponting moves out of range. Some wild striking there from Ponting.
Sai is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Ponting throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Sai was covering up waiting for the punch and Ponting finishes the takedown easily into guard. Sai looking for a guillotine here but Ponting defends easily.
Sai has momentary wrist control but Ponting slips an elbow through the middle.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Sai keeping moving, preventing Ponting from controlling successfully. Ponting preventing the sweep. Sai keeping moving, preventing Ponting from controlling successfully. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Ponting stopping the sweep attempt from Sai. Ponting postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Ponting is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Sai keeping moving, preventing Ponting from controlling successfully. Ponting stands up over Sai, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A combination from Ponting does no damage. Sai misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Sai wants to clinch up but Ponting keeps it at a distance. Ponting catches Sai with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong! Sai drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles. Sai closes the distance and pushes Ponting back into the cage. Sai lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage. A frustrated look appears on Ponting's face as he tries to break the clinch. Sai throws a knee to the head but misses.
Ponting looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Ponting tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Sai's elbow.

Sai shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Ponting is trying to defend but Sai finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Sai is looking to take a break and control but Ponting is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Ponting trying to control from the bottom.

Sai is stalling here. Ponting is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Sai seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Ponting has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work. Sai is looking to reverse the position. Ponting lands a nice forearm strike.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Ponting working the body and head with strikes. Sai is trying to control Ponting's posture but Ponting avoids it. Ponting is looking to take a break and control but Sai is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Ponting working the ground and pound from side control. Sai is working to avoid the ground and pound but Ponting connects with a decent elbow. Sai is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Ponting off and has taken his back! Sai is persistently looking for the submission but Ponting is defending it well.

Sai is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Ponting is aware though and is defending well. Ponting landing with the ground and pound. Ponting working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Sai's head. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Ponting passes into half guard. Ponting missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Ponting works his way into side control. Ponting wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sai keeps working. Ponting in side control lands a decent elbow. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Sai is trying to control Ponting's posture but Ponting avoids it. Sai being controlled for a moment. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ricky Ponting dominated that second round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Sai rushes Ponting and presses him up against the cage. Ponting is trying to force a seperation but Sai has the dominant position. Sai's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. A jab from Ponting does it's job there. Sai is looking to clinch. Ponting slips a jab and a cross from Sai.
Ponting closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Sai to the mat! Sai manages to get full guard. Sai controls Ponting momentarily but Ponting frees himself. Ponting stands up over Sai, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Ponting is pushing down on Sai's leg trying to pass to half guard. Sai is fighting to maintain full guard but Ponting has managed to sneak the leg through. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Ponting lands a nice short elbow. Sai wants to get back to full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Ponting connects with a nice short shot to Sai's temple. Ponting slips a nice elbow through Sai's hands, connecting with Sai's forehead. Sai has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Ponting is working away from the top position though. Ponting works his way into side control. A control attempt from Sai but he's now mounted! Ponting cracks Sai with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
BOOM! Ponting connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Ponting scoring with strikes but Sai is staying in there. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Ponting controlling the pace for now. Sai is trying desperately to improve position. Sai is bucking up trying to escape but Ponting cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ponting with a couple of short strikes. Ponting trying to control but he's not successful this time. Sai is in a horrible position here. Ponting smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Sai is desperately trying to improve his position but Ponting has a good base and remains in mount. Ponting scores with a couple of good head shots there.
The referee warns Sai that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Ponting lands a couple of good shots and Sai has given up his back, trying to escape the position! Ponting not allowing Sai to control his hands. Sai takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Sai covers up after taking a massive shot to the side of the head.
Ricky Ponting overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Ponting lands strikes to the head.
Sai is rocked!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ponting lands a shot to the body. Sai is still in real trouble! Can Ponting finish him? Ponting lands strikes from the back and Sai isn't doing enough to escape the position. The referee steps in to end the fight.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:22 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ricky Ponting! An out of breath Ricky Ponting thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
