PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Danilo Mcgee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Baden Severn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Baden Severn told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Danilo Mcgee!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Baden Severn!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Severn avoids the head kick by Mcgee.
Mcgee fails to land the takedown.

Severn forces Mcgee back against the cage and clinches.

Severn turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Severn manages to end up in side control.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Mcgee can't do much from the bottom here.
Mcgee tries to bench press Severn off him but Severn keeps the position.

Severn stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Severn moves into the clinch.
Mcgee gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.
Mcgee being controlled against the cage.
Mcgee could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Severn has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Mcgee regains guard immediately.
Mcgee trying to keep a closed guard but Severn is proving a slippery customer.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Severn is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Severn postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Severn stays in close to Mcgee's body and controls the position.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Baden Severn hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Severn is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Mcgee's half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mcgee is looking to escape.

Severn looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Mcgee is refusing to be controlled, as Severn sits in half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Severn is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Mcgee!
Severn tries to control but Mcgee wriggling away.
Mcgee can't escape the position.
Severn trying to control but Mcgee is having none of it.
Severn looking to control and managing it successfully.
Mcgee sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Mcgee trying to control here.

Baden Severn has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Severn moves into the clinch successfully.
Mcgee tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
A frustrated look appears on Severn's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Severn gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Mcgee regains guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Severn sitting in guard, not really doing much.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
It looks like Severn might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Baden Severn dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!



Severn closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Mcgee to the mat! Mcgee manages to get full guard.
Mcgee trying to control the position.
Severn looking to sit in guard and control but Mcgee gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Baden Severn has got the better of the ground game so far.
Mcgee controls from within his opponent's guard.
Mcgee might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Severn is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Mcgee has his hands clasped together but Severn extends and breaks Mcgee's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Severn.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Baden Severn!
