PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jeff Zumo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fred Anderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fred Anderson will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jeff Zumo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Fred Anderson!
The judges for this bout are Radbod Blank, Wagner Zegers and Patrick Alders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Anderson tries to clinch but Zumo is having none of it.
Zumo tries for a takedown but Anderson sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Anderson tries to close the distance and clinch up but Zumo swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Zumo fails with a takedown attempt.
Anderson tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Zumo manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
The fight stays on the outside here - Anderson looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Anderson has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Zumo is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Anderson wants to clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Anderson wants to clinch up but Zumo keeps it at a distance.
Anderson tries to close the distance and clinch but Zumo swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Fred Anderson is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Zumo manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Anderson on his heels. He'll look to pass Anderson's guard now, I'm sure.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Zumo working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Zumo in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Anderson avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Zumo has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Anderson is looking to stand back up but Zumo counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Anderson.
Zumo with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Zumo connects with a nice short shot to Anderson's temple.
Zumo looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Anderson with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Zumo not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Zumo not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Zumo is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Anderson defends it well.
Zumo thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Zumo throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Zumo is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Zumo drops an elbow to the side of Anderson's head.
Zumo slips a nice elbow through Anderson's hands, connecting with Anderson's forehead.
Zumo missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Zumo thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Zumo winds up and cracks Anderson with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Anderson taking some punishment here, with Zumo in his half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Zumo working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Anderson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Zumo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Anderson avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Zumo.

Zumo has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Anderson defend it? Zumo steps over the head and cranks it - Anderson is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Zumo!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:23 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Jeff Zumo!
