Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Miron Karoa! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Dolphin Neck! The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Sandra Marshall and Dirk Anderson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Karoa fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Neck avoids it really well and circles away. Neck pushes Karoa up against the cage in a clinch. Neck prevents the takedown attempt.
A short right from Neck. Karoa is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Neck to keep the fight standing. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Miron Karoa. That's going to take a lot out of him. Karoa tries to score a body lock takedown but Neck shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Neck's coach down at Elite Training Facility was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Neck's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight. Neck jumps guard.
Neck keeping moving, preventing Karoa from controlling successfully. Neck really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Karoa. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Neck utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Karoa accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Karoa throwing strikes from guard but Neck blocks nicely. Karoa has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
That's one minute gone in the round. Neck is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Karoa is controlling him. Karoa passes Neck's right leg, so he's now in half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Karoa is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Karoa looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Neck with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Neck is trying to stand back up but Karoa is controlling him
Karoa maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Neck could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Karoa has cracked it and Neck is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Karoa!
