Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Percy Duncan! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Rob Andrade! The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Arvi Lind and Johanna Lukiainen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Andrade darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Duncan tries to roll over but Andrade keeps him under control. Duncan wants to get back to his feet.
Duncan flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Andrade slows the pace down in half guard. Duncan is positioning himself well to prevent Andrade advancing to mount. Duncan could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Duncan is trying to stand up here but Andrade is controlling him well. Duncan keeps control of the position for the meantime.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Andrade misses with a kick to the body.
Andrade moves in looking to clinch but Duncan pushes him off. Duncan throws a left and a right that both miss
and Andrade counters with a stiff right hand.
It looks like Percy Duncan has been cut. Andrade wants to clinch up but Duncan keeps it at a distance. Andrade scores with a takedown into Duncan's guard. Andrade passes Duncan's left leg - he's now in half guard. Duncan gets back to full guard.
Andrade trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Duncan is adopting a defensive guard. Duncan keeping moving, preventing Andrade from controlling successfully. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Andrade wanted to stand there but Duncan had control of the position. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Duncan is pulling down on Andrade's head to control his posture. Andrade wants to control from the top but Duncan keeps moving. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Andrade doesn't manage to clinch there - Duncan circles away.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Andrade throws a half hearted mid kick. Duncan fails in his attempt to clinch. Andrade tries to clinch but Duncan is having none of it. Andrade closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Andrade lands in his opponent's guard. Duncan looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Andrade trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Andrade with a flurry of punches that miss.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Duncan pulls Andrade in close to his closed guard and prevents Andrade from doing any damage or advancing position. Andrade looking to sit in guard and control but Duncan gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Andrade working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Duncan. Duncan drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Andrade dives on top into guard. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Andrade trying to control the position from guard on top but Duncan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Duncan tries to land a sweep but no joy. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Rob Andrade dominated that round. The cut man is working on Percy Duncan's cut. That's time! Back to the action!
Andrade throws a series of strikes that have Duncan backpedaling.
Duncan throws a combination that misses and Andrade counters with a thumping low kick. Andrade throws a nice head kick!
Andrade tries to clinch and Duncan counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. This has been an exciting period of action! Duncan keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Andrade's head. Andrade working a defensive guard but Duncan manages to pass into side control anyway.
Andrade wants to get back to his feet but Duncan drags him back down. Andrade is looking for a sweep. Andrade tries to control but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad. Duncan has hold of Andrade's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Andrade manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
That's one minute gone in the round. Duncan goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Andrade turns into him and now he's in Duncan's guard.
Duncan keeping moving, preventing Andrade from controlling successfully. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Duncan seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Andrade wanted to stand there but Duncan had control of the position. Duncan has Andrade pulled in close to control his posture.
We're going to have a standup here because Percy Duncan wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. A head kick misses from Andrade. Andrade scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Andrade is breathing heavily. Duncan makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work! Andrade fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Andrade feints and as Duncan raises his hands in defense, Andrade changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. This has been an exciting period of action! Duncan wants to stand and escape but Andrade is having none of it. Duncan is controlling Andrade's posture.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Duncan bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Andrade's guard. Duncan working some strikes from top position. Andrade working a defensive guard here.
Duncan won't allow Andrade to get back to his feet. Duncan stands up from Andrade's guard - Duncan perhaps looking for a knockout. Duncan misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Andrade shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Andrade showed some decent athleticism there. Duncan is looking to escape. Andrade trying to control the action but Duncan is working from the bottom. Duncan is concentrating on defense, preventing Andrade from advancing position. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Andrade is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Duncan defends it well. The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Andrade. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Duncan is trying to stand up here but Andrade is controlling him well. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close second round but Rob Andrade will probably get the nod - 10:9. The cut man is working on Percy Duncan's cut. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!
A swing and a miss from Duncan. Andrade connects with a high kick. A head kick by Duncan misses and Andrade counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Andrade. Andrade manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Duncan is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Duncan wants to stand but Andrade has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Duncan preventing the sweep. Duncan is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Andrade is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Andrade has escaped and now he's on top!
That's one minute gone in the round. Duncan controlling Andrade's posture. Andrade preventing the sweep. Duncan is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Andrade drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Duncan dives on top into guard. Andrade takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Duncan drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Duncan seems to have locked his on tight now - Andrade screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Duncan, as he picks up the win!
