PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Samurai Jack (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dong Ming Pak (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 4 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 10 - 1, fighting out of London, Samurai Jack!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dong Ming Pak!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, William Gold and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pak misses with a jab, cross combination.
Pak shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Jack eats them both and turns towards Pak to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Pak throws a jab but it's blocked by Jack.
Pak takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.


It looks like Dong Ming Pak has been cut.
Pak fails with a takedown attempt.
Jack changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Jack slips under a jab.
Nice sprawl there from Jack as Pak shoots in.

Pak moves into the clinch.
Jack lands with a right to the head.
The referee calls for Jack to work.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Jack softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.
Pak misses with the head strike.
Nice body punch from Jack.
Jack swings wildly with an uppercut but Pak uses good head movement to avoid it.

Pak has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Jack uses from the top position.
Jack postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Jack avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Pak has his foot on Jack's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Jack works his way back into a safe position though.
Jack stays in close to Pak's body and controls the position.
Jack wants to control from the top but Pak keeps moving.
Jack postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Pak wants to sweep but no luck.

Samurai Jack has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Jack misses with a head kick.
Pak slips a jab from Jack.

Pak scores with a takedown into Jack's guard.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Jack is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Pak trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pak trying to control but Jack is working from the bottom.
Pak loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Jack is trying to control the position but Pak postures up.
Jack pulls Pak in close to prevent any damage.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Samurai Jack.
Pak fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Jack instigates a clinch.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Pak.

Pak pulls guard.
Jack has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Pak has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Jack can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Jack is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Jack's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Pak had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Jack defends it easily.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Pak trying to keep a closed guard but Jack is proving a slippery customer.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Samurai Jack will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Dong Ming Pak's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Jack swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Pak shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Jack sprawls well. Jack wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Pak gets slowly back to his feet.
Pak slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Jack misses the body punch

and Pak counters by clinching up.
Jack tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Pak avoids it.

Pak lands a hook to the side of the head.
Jack tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Pak's elbow.
A battle for position here, against the cage.
Pak has Jack pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Jack manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
A right handed body shot lands from Jack.
Jack is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Samurai Jack has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dong Ming Pak.

Pak wants the takedown. Jack is fighting it off but Pak persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Jack's guard against the cage.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Jack tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Jack lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Pak!
Pak keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Pak regains half guard.
Pak slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Pak is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Jack avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Jack seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Pak looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Jack passes Pak's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Pak tries to get to full guard but Jack has control of the leg.
Jack wants to lay and pray for a moment but Pak keeps working.
Pak wants to improve his position but Jack is controlling well.

Pak moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Jack is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Pak fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Jack manages to avoid it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Dong Ming Pak will probably get the nod - 10:9.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Pak.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Pak misses with a short punch on the inside.
A short body shot lands from Jack as the two fighters clinch.

Jack with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.

Pak has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Jack is working away from the top position though.
Pak is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Jack is staying active.
Jack perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Pak manages to get to full guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

That's time! Jack's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Jack displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Pak throws out the jab.
Dong Ming Pak seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Jack looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

Jack throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.

Pak is trying to drag Jack to the mat but Jack just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Pak is absolutely dripping with sweat - he looks exhausted.
