PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Steven Perkins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Genki Sudo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Genki Sudo was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Steven Perkins! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Genki Sudo! The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Emerson Jorge and Felipe Paraventi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Perkins throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Perkins will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Sudo has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Sudo there as he acknowledges the shot. Perkins swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Sudo counters with a shoot takedown. Perkins fights it but they end up in guard. Perkins manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Sudo misses with a series of wild punches.
Sudo lands a jab to the head.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Perkins lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Sudo shoots in for a takedown but Perkins shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Perkins misses with the combination.
Nice sprawl there from Perkins as Sudo shoots in. Sudo fails with the takedown and Perkins counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work. Steven Perkins has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Genki Sudo. Sudo dives in and grabs Perkins's left leg, looking for a takedown. Perkins pushes down on Sudo's head and hops out. Perkins lands with an overhand left. Perkins throws a right hand that Sudo ducks under and follows up with a left that Sudo also avoids with ease. Sudo fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sudo shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Perkins as he jumps to the side. Sudo looks winded! Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Perkins!
Sudo is rocked! Perkins throws a left and a right that both miss
and Sudo counters with a nice double leg into guard. Sudo is still in real trouble! Can Perkins finish him? Perkins keeping moving, preventing Sudo from controlling successfully. Perkins really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Perkins is looking to stand up but Sudo isn't so interested in that idea. Sudo trying to control the position from guard on top but Perkins is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Sudo seems to have recovered his senses. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Sudo advances position into side control! Sudo trying to control the action but Perkins is working from the bottom. Sudo is trying to get an arm triangle but Perkins is defending well. Sudo is looking to take a break and control but Perkins is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Perkins is trying to buck Sudo off. Sudo is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Perkins is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Sudo is trying to get an arm triangle but Perkins is defending well. Perkins explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there! Sudo has his takedown stuffed and Perkins connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Sudo shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Perkins as he avoids it easily. Perkins misses with a jab, cross combination.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. and Sudo counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Perkins wants to get back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Sudo throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Perkins is trying to stand.
Perkins is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Tenacity Elite - 17 Coaches that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet. Sudo moves nicely into side control. Sudo wants to control but Perkins is keeping him busy. Sudo wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Perkins, who protects the arm well. Sudo has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Perkins! Sudo throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Perkins has his hands clasped together but Sudo breaks the hold and Perkins is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Sudo!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Genki Sudo! Genki Sudo decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way. Steven Perkins was interviewed post fight and said 'I'll beat you next time'.
