Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Carlos Meira! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kameny Moura! The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Felipe Paraventi and Leandro Rodrigues.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Meira gets a double leg takedown into Moura's guard. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Meira is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. We've been hearing good reports from Meira's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Meira slips nicely into half guard. Meira is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Meira's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Carlos Meira just wasn't active enough. Moura shoots for a takedown but Meira saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Meira moves into range and clinches up with Moura. Meira breaks from the clinch.
Meira fails to land the takedown. Meira darts in and clinches Moura up against the cage. Moura takes an elbow to the temple. Meira gets underhooks to prevent Moura's takedown attempt.
Nice elbow from Meira. Meira manages to break the clinch.
Meira closes the distance and clinches. Meira breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Moura fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Carlos Meira has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kameny Moura. Meira fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Moura sprawls well initially but Meira persists and gets the takedown into half guard. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Meira is pressing down on Moura's thigh, looking to free his foot. Moura is holding on for now. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Meira sitting and controlling from the half guard. Meira works his foot free and advances to mount. Meira scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Moura?
Meira forces the positional change into back control. Moura holding both Meira 's hands and preventing any damage. Meira looking for the choke from the back. Moura tries to roll but Meira sticks to his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Meira controls the action. Moura is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Meira gets his way!
Meira is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Moura with him. Moura is trying to defend but Meira has an arm under the chin now! Moura grimaces and is forced to tap out!
