PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Miyata Takori (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aaron Yates (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Yates has chosen Here comes Tecca Nina - Tech N9ne as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Aaron Yates told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Miyata Takori!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Aaron Yates!
The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Bart Greer and Santiago Holmes.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice takedown defense from Takori. No joy for Yates on that attempt.
Takori misses with a right hand
and Yates counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Yates has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Yates shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Takori sprawls well. Takori wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Yates gets slowly back to his feet.
Yates goes for a double leg but Takori avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Takori continues to drive forward.
Miyata Takori has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Aaron Yates.

Takori has Yates pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Takori pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Yates tumbling to the mat - Takori dives into Yates's guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Takori's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Yates has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Takori can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Yates had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Takori defends it easily.
Yates throws some shots to the body, keeping his opponent honest.

Yates escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Takori gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Yates is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Takori is aware though and is defending well.

Takori avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Takori pushes down on Yates's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Yates is looking to improve his position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Yates looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Takori pushes past his half guard into mount!

Yates is controlling an arm, preventing Takori from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.
Yates tries to hold on but Takori postures up.

Yates sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Takori is keen to just control but Yates is a slippery customer.

Takori is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Yates doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Takori.
Takori takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Takori wants to pass to mount but Yates is defending the position.
Yates makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Yates.

Takori throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Yates works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Yates has his foot on Takori's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Takori works his way back into a safe position though.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Takori won't allow Yates to sweep him here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

A close round but Aaron Yates will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Yates fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Yates throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Takori's waist but Takori gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Yates off to one side.
Takori misses with a low kick.
Takori shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Yates eats them both and turns towards Takori to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Yates walks into a left hand.
Yates fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Miyata Takori has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Aaron Yates.
Takori circles away from the clinch attempt.
Takori swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

and Takori counters with a nice double leg into side control. Yates won't be happy with that.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Yates prevents Takori from moving into mount.
Yates is not content to let Takori control the position.
Miyata Takori overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Yates is breathing heavily.

Takori wants to control but Yates is keeping him busy.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Yates tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Takori wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Takori is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Yates knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Takori thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
