Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Mat Kowalak! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Pawel Pawlak! The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, David Hoff and Daniel Franklin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pawlak stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Pawlak wants it to stay on the feet. Pawlak shoots in but Kowalak avoids the takedown attempt easily. Pawlak doesn't succeed with the takedown and Kowalak counters with a left and a right that stings Pawlak. Kowalak gets caught flat footed, as Pawlak shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Pawlak wants to control from the top but Kowalak keeps moving. Pawlak throwing strikes but missing. Pawlak trying to control but Kowalak is working from the bottom. Pawlak preventing the sweep. Kowalak trying to keep a closed guard but Pawlak is proving a slippery customer.
Pawlak working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Kowalak's head. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Pawlak looking to pass the guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pawlak trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Kowalak utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Pawlak wants to control from the top but Kowalak keeps moving. Pawlak has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Pawlak missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Pawlak wants to control from the top but Kowalak keeps moving. Pawlak engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Pawel Pawlak has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. Pawlak shoots and misses and Kowalak counters with a shoot takedown. Pawlak fights it but they end up in guard. Mat Kowalak has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Pawel Pawlak. Kowalak advances position into side control!
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Pawlak is looking for a sweep. Kowalak looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Pawlak is positioning himself to get back to half guard. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Pawlak managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Kowalak.
Kowalak trying to control the position but Pawlak is working away. Pawlak is looking to reverse the position. Pawlak is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Kowalak is thwarting Pawlak's attempts to control the position. Kowalak wants to control but Pawlak is keeping him busy.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Pawlak trying to control here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Pawlak moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Kowalak works a leg free and moves into half guard. Pawlak wants to improve his position but Kowalak is controlling well.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Kowalak is looking to take a break and control but Pawlak is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Pawel Pawlak will probably get the nod. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!
Kowalak fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Kowalak dives in for a single leg takedown but Pawlak sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Kowalak jumps guard.
Pawlak trying to control the position from guard on top but Kowalak is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Pawlak content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Pawlak landing some decent shots from guard. Pawlak looking to sit in guard and control but Kowalak gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Pawlak escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kowalak gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pawlak is trying to control the position but Kowalak postures up. Kowalak showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Pawlak is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Kowalak wants to stand and escape but instead Pawlak has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. Pawlak looking to pass the guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Pawlak working some strikes from top position. Kowalak keeping moving, preventing Pawlak from controlling successfully. Pawlak distracts Kowalak with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Pawlak throws a sloppy strike and Kowalak has hooked up an armbar on the loose arm! He's turned and extended fully! Pawlak is forced to tap! Great BJJ from Kowalak!
