PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Oscar Quinn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Markus Henry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Markus Henry enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Oscar Quinn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Markus Henry!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Seu Braga and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Quinn closes the distance looking to clinch

and Henry holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Quinn wants to get back to striking at distance but Henry won't allow it.

Henry jumps guard and drags Quinn to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Quinn trying to control the position from guard on top but Henry is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Henry is pulling down on Quinn's head. It's preventing any offense from Quinn, at least for the moment.
Let's hope that Henry has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Markus Henry.

Henry has closed the distance and engaged Quinn in a clinch.
Henry looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Quinn is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Henry's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Quinn tries to close the distance and clinch up but Henry swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Henry misses with a head kick.
Henry throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Henry changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Quinn looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Henry lands a decent elbow from side control.
Quinn tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Henry wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Henry tries to stand but Quinn is controlling his head.
Quinn is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Quinn is looking to improve his position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Henry distracts Quinn with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Quinn shoots in and drives through. Henry sprawls well.

Henry is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Quinn's half guard.
Quinn is in trouble now - Henry has advanced to mount!
Henry lands a heavy elbow.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Quinn is wriggling around trying to escape.
Henry avoids the attempt from Quinn to control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Quinn is breathing heavily.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Quinn displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Henry throws out the jab.
Quinn tries to close the distance and clinch but Henry swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Henry looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Quinn tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Henry shoots in but no luck this time.
Quinn tries to clinch but Henry is having none of it.
Henry missing with a left hand there. Quinn was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Quinn is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

and Henry counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Quinn!

A lull in the action here as Henry stalls from top position.
Henry should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Henry moves into full mount!
Henry lands a nice shot to the head.
Quinn tries to hold on but Henry pushes him away.
The referee warns Quinn that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Quinn working to try and regain half guard.
Markus Henry has got the better of the ground game so far.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Henry controlling his opponent.

Quinn defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Henry.

Quinn takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Quinn can't escape the position.

Henry is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Quinn can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Henry has control of Quinn's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Quinn regains control of the situation pretty easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Markus Henry showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Henry prevents Quinn from improving his position.
Henry moves nicely into side control.
Quinn struggling a bit here.
Henry is staying tight to Quinn's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Henry creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Quinn is looking to regain half guard here but Henry keeps moving and retains side control.

Henry tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Henry takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Quinn is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Henry asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Henry tries to stand but Quinn is controlling his head.

Quinn looking for a sweep but Henry has passed into full mount! Oh no!

Henry stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

Henry feints and as Quinn raises his hands in defense, Henry changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Henry has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Quinn is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Quinn can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Henry controls the pace.

Oscar Quinn has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Markus Henry is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Quinn has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Well Henry has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
