The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Makroff gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Lannister counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Makroff's guard now.
Lannister looking to pass the guard.
Makroff wants to stand and escape but Lannister is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lannister with a nice head shot there.
Makroff keeping full guard, as Lannister tries to pass.
Makroff looking to hit a scissor sweep but Lannister is one step ahead there.
Makroff throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Lannister wants to pass the guard but Makroff is keeping the position.

Makroff felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Lannister looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Lannister content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Makroff is trying to maintain the position but Lannister is very close to passing his half guard.

Lannister takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Lannister is trying to control. Makroff wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Makroff looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Lannister passes to full mount!
Lannister lands a big shot there that rocks Makroff but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Makroff is in all sorts of trouble here.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Makroff really wants to buck Lannister off and get back to his feet.
Lannister looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Lannister wants to finish this one by submission but Makroff is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Lannister.
Lannister is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Makroff has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Makroff stops Lannister from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.

BOOM! Lannister connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Lannister is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Makroff is surviving well by controlling Lannister's body position as best he can.

Lannister jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Makroff manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Makroff tries to buck Lannister off but Lannister is having none of it.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Makroff wants to get back to his feet but Lannister drags him back down.
Lannister has hold of Makroff's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Makroff tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Lannister cranks the arm and Makroff screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Makroff, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Tyrion Lannister!
