5 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tapda Mattus! The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Stewart Dunkirk and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Redban scores with a hook. Redban throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Redban gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Mattus to score an easy takedown into full guard. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Mattus working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Mattus wants to control from the top but Redban keeps moving. Mattus trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Mattus with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Mattus distracts Redban with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Redban keeping moving, preventing Mattus from controlling successfully. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. This has been an exciting period of action! Redban preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Mattus working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Redban keeping moving, preventing Mattus from controlling successfully. Mattus is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Mattus wants to pass the guard but Redban is keeping the position. Mattus thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Mattus works over Redban with some ground and pound from guard. Mattus with a nice head shot there.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Redban wants to stand and escape but Mattus is having none of it. Redban keeping moving, preventing Mattus from controlling successfully. Mattus keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Redban's head. Mattus scoring with punches to the head and body. Mattus working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Redban's head. Mattus stops Redban from standing up. Mattus showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Mattus throwing strikes but missing. Mattus stops Redban from standing up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mattus postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Mattus is working the ground and pound from guard. Mattus is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Redban has his hands clasped together but Mattus extends and breaks Redban's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Mattus.
