PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Forest Gump (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Quinton Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Forest Gump looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gump fails with the takedown.
Jackson shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Gump decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Jackson's guard.

Jackson wriggles free and stands up.
Jackson tries to clinch up.
Jackson tries to land a front kick but Gump steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Gump doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Jackson counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Gump's guard now.

Gump is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Gump is breathing heavily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!
Jackson wanted to stand there but Gump had control of the position.
Gump is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Jackson wants to stand but Gump is controlling his posture from full guard.
Jackson stands and throws Gump's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Jackson slows the pace down.
Jackson has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Gump is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Jackson content just to control the position here.

Jackson is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Jackson tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Gump paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Jackson takes the fight into the clinch.

Jackson lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Gump is looking for a sweep. Jackson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Jackson is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Jackson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gump keeps working.

Jackson is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Gump trying to control from the bottom.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Gump shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Jackson counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Jackson.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Forest Gump. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Gump is trying to drag Jackson to the mat but Jackson just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Jackson gets underhooks to prevent Gump's takedown attempt.

Jackson wants the takedown. Gump is fighting it off but Jackson persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Gump's guard against the cage.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Gump is on top in guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Quinton Jackson dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!



Gump bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jackson tries to bench press Gump off him but Gump keeps the position.
Gump throws an elbow but Jackson slips to the side and avoids it well.
A bit of a lull in the action here.

Gump tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Gump has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Quinton Jackson has got the better of the ground game so far.
Gump misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Jackson wants to control but Gump postures up.

Gump trying to control the position but Jackson is working away.
Jackson is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Gump's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Jackson is trying to maintain the position but Gump is very close to passing his half guard.
Gump thows a huge punch but Jackson dodges it nicely.
Jackson moves into full guard.
Jackson trying to keep a closed guard but Gump is proving a slippery customer.
Gump is pushing down on Jackson's leg trying to pass to half guard. Jackson is fighting to maintain full guard but Gump has managed to sneak the leg through.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Gump works his way into side control.
Jackson is looking for a sweep.
You can see the frustration on Jackson's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Gump passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Jackson!
Gump can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Jackson is looking to escape.
Gump in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Gump working for a submission but Jackson is keeping him at bay.
Jackson is looking to get to half guard.
Gump has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Jackson's face.
Gump is landing with some decent strikes but Jackson is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Jackson bucks up and throws Gump to the side - he's got back to his feet. Great escape!
Jackson dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Gump. That did some damage!

Gump darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jackson is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Gump's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Gump's back!
Jackson is trying to control but Gump is trying to escape here - he's now mounted.
Gump manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Jackson tries to pass to full mount but Gump defends it.
Gump avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Jackson.
Jackson wants to take a breather but Gump is having none of it.
Gump is trying to get back to full guard.
Gump trying to hold on to Jackson's head to control him but Jackson postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Forest Gump dominated that second round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Gump gets caught flat footed, as Jackson shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Gump has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Jackson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Jackson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gump swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Gump is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Gump tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Jackson showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Jackson gets to his feet. Gump looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Jackson throws and low kick but Gump moves out of range easily.
Quinton Jackson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jackson avoids the body shot from Gump.
Jackson misses with a takedown

and Gump counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Gump.

Jackson trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Gump pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Jackson is keeping the position for now.

Gump is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Jackson working a defensive guard but Gump manages to pass into side control anyway.

Gump working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Gump has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Jackson!

Jackson has given up his back. Will we see Gump going for some submissions?

Gump is working the back position looking for the choke. Oh, he's slid into an armbar! Beautiful transition and Jackson taps out! Fantastic Jiu Jitsu from Gump.
