The bell rings for round one and we are underway! De La Rosa shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Montgomery pinned against the cage. Montgomery gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. De La Rosa fails with a takedown attempt from distance. De La Rosa looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Montgomery! Montgomery tries to lock up and control but De La Rosa gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. De La Rosa looking for a guillotine from mount but Montgomery is having none of it. Montgomery is wriggling around trying to escape.
De La Rosa is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Montgomery has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Montgomery! De La Rosa is looking for a triangle but Montgomery pushes his legs off easily.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Montgomery misses with a takedown attempt and De La Rosa decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Montgomery's guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. De La Rosa works his way into full mount! De La Rosa throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

That's four minutes gone in the round. De La Rosa jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Montgomery is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Montgomery and De La Rosa has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Montgomery tries to improve position but can't. Montgomery is working hard here to advance position. De La Rosa tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no De La Rosa has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! De La Rosa wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Montgomery, who protects the arm well. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Montgomery tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but De La Rosa wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Joe De La Rosa dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
De La Rosa has his takedown stuffed and Montgomery counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Montgomery. De La Rosa can't break the clinch.
Montgomery jumps guard but De La Rosa stands there with Montgomery around his waist. Montgomery gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

De La Rosa is pushing down on Montgomery's leg trying to pass to half guard. Montgomery is fighting to maintain full guard but De La Rosa has managed to sneak the leg through. Montgomery tries to kick De La Rosa off but De La Rosa keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Montgomery has his hands clasped together but De La Rosa breaks the hold and Montgomery is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by De La Rosa!
