Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rogue Four! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
17 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Steve Cantwell! The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Robert Twigg and Cecil Peabody.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A combination from Cantwell does no damage. Four moves away from the strike by Cantwell. Four takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Four lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Cantwell circles away quickly and effectively. Four moves into range and clinches up with Cantwell. Four pressing his opponent against the cage. Cantwell tries to circle away but Four has him pinned against the cage. Cantwell pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Cantwell misses with a series of wild punches.
Some wild striking there from Cantwell.
Cantwell lands with a hook. Four tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Four drives through and clinches with Cantwell against the cage.
Four turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Cantwell is trying to escape and get back to his feet. Four taking a breather here. Four tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Cantwell is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Four is controlling him well. Four in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. Four trying to control the action but Cantwell is working from the bottom. Four landing strikes.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Four is looking to take a break and control but Cantwell is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Cantwell takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Four tries to score with some ground and pound. Cantwell controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. A lull in the action here. Four wants to control but Cantwell is keeping him busy. Cantwell tries to get back to half guard but can't. Four working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter. Cantwell really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Four. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Four tries to move to full mount but Cantwell actually manages to regain half guard. Four works his way into full mount! Cantwell squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Four is in the full mount, landing strikes. Four lands a big shot there that rocks Cantwell but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Cantwell takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. This has been an exciting period of action! Four trying to control but Cantwell is having none of it. Four with shots to the head and body - Cantwell looks very uncomfortable down there.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Four scoring with strikes but Cantwell is staying in there. Cantwell tries to buck Four off but he can't manage it. Four has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! Cantwell is forced to tap!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Rogue Four! Rogue Four is the new middleweight champion!
