Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ronaldo Souza! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Danny Brown! The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Phil Schofield and William Gold.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Souza slips a straight right by Brown. Brown misses with a wild body shot. Brown misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Souza.
Brown has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Souza is landing a low percentage of strikes. Souza throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Brown misses with a hook
and Souza counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Brown is looking to control Souza's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Brown avoid being mounted? Brown wants to improve his position but Souza is controlling well.
Brown is staying active underneath Souza, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Brown trying to control but Souza postures up.
We've been hearing good reports from Souza's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Brown is looking for a sweep. Souza is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Souza is working for a kimura but Brown is defending it quite comfortably.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Brown can do anything to dispel that myth. Brown looking to control.
Souza wants to pass the guard but Brown is keeping the position. Brown is pulling down on Souza's head to control his posture. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Souza drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Souza jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Souza stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Brown swivels though and keeps the full guard. Brown is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Danny Brown wasn't active enough on the ground. Brown gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Brown tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. Souza jumps guard but Brown stands there with Souza around his waist. Souza gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Brown lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. A bit of stalling here from Brown.
Souza jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Brown walks away with a smile on his face. Souza gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Brown fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Souza, pushing him back against the cage. Brown dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage. Souza tries to pull guard but Brown forces him back to his feet, against the cage. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ronaldo Souza. That's going to take a lot out of him. Brown tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. Brown has Souza pressed against the cage.
Souza drags the fight down to the ground.
Brown is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Souza is looking for a triangle but Brown pushes his legs off easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Brown is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Souza is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Brown is aware though and is defending well. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Brown scoring with punches to the head and body. Souza has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Brown can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Brown would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Brown really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Souza. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Brown working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Souza's head. Souza looking for a guillotine here but Brown defends easily.
Souza is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Brown is aware though and is defending well. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Brown trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Souza looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Brown passes into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Ronaldo Souza will probably get the nod. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!
Brown throws a lazy uppercut
and Souza counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Brown looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Souza passes easily into side control. Nice work. What's Brown going to do here then? He's in a bit of a pickle. Souza working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Brown wants to control but Souza postures up. Brown is trying to improve his position. Souza will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Souza is working to tighten his grip on Brown's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Brown has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Souza is really squeezing tight and eventually Brown passes out! Souza breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Ronaldo Souza! Ronaldo Souza decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well. In defeat, Danny Brown stepped up to the mic, saying 'I had a fractured skull and a broken back coming into this fight. Next time you're dead.'.
