PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between John Cena (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Scottie Ramon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Scottie Ramon told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Cena!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Scottie Ramon!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Chad Campbell and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cena fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Ramon tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Cena swivels and escapes.
Ramon throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Cena.
Cena slaps away a takedown attempt from Ramon, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Ramon shoots for a takedown but Cena saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
John Cena has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Scottie Ramon.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Cena.
Cena shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Ramon but Ramon pushes him off and we're back to square one.
The fight stays on the outside here - Ramon looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
A head kick misses from Cena.
Ramon fails in his attempt to clinch.

Ramon looks to land a combination but Cena avoids it well.

Cena has taken the fight to the clinch.
Ramon looking for a takedown.
Ramon wants to take the fight to the mat but Cena manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Cena is working for takedown but Ramon is calmly controlling the position for now.
Ramon has Cena pushed against the cage.
Ramon tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Cena just stands there and leans against the cage.
Cena's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Ramon is trying to pull guard but Cena has him pressed against the cage.

Cena ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Cena no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Cena seems keen to control Ramon's posture.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Ramon accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Cena working for a triangle but Ramon defends it easily.
Ramon looking to sit in guard and control but Cena gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Cena is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Ramon has his hands on Cena's head, controlling the position.
Cena controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Cena advances position into side control!
Ramon really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cena. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
You can see the frustration on Ramon's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Cena working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Ramon is trying to escape the position but Cena is controlling the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ramon is working to avoid the ground and pound but Cena connects with a decent elbow.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Ramon wants to control but Cena postures up.
Cena tries to score with some ground and pound. Ramon controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Cena controls the position from side control.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Cena looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Ramon is avoiding damage well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Ramon shoots in for a takedown but Cena shows good takedown defense.
Ramon just misses with a punch to the body.
Ramon lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Cena circles away quickly and effectively.
Ramon shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Cena sprawls well. Cena wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Ramon gets slowly back to his feet.

Ramon lets loose with a powerful body kick. Cena will feel that in the morning.
Ramon closes the distance and clinches up with Cena, looking for a takedown. Ramon pushes Cena against the cage but Cena circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Ramon fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Cena shoots in and drives through. Ramon sprawls well.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Ramon shoots in looking for a takedown. Cena tries to sprawl out of it but Ramon keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Cena manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
A thudding body kick lands there by Cena!

Cena shoots in for a takedown but Ramon shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

A close second round but Scottie Ramon will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Ramon's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Ramon misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Cena.

Scottie Ramon comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Ramon has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
