Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Neil Patrick Harris! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Brian Gummidge! The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Sergei Dronov and Igor Prikhodko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gummidge fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Harris, pushing him back against the cage. Gummidge has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Harris is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Harris prevents the takedown attempt.
Harris gets control of Gummidge's arms and successfully pulls guard. Harris will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. Harris manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Gummidge manages to get himself to full guard.
Harris avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Gummidge is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Harris is aware though and is defending well. Gummidge has his foot on Harris's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Harris works his way back into a safe position though. Harris trying to control but Gummidge is working from the bottom. Gummidge is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Harris defends well. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Gummidge looking for a guillotine here but Harris defends easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gummidge is working an open guard so Harris takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Gummidge tries to clinch up and Harris counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work. Gummidge shoots in and bounces Harris off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Gummidge trying to control the position from guard on top but Harris is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Harris has his foot on Gummidge's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Gummidge works his way back into a safe position though.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Harris had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Gummidge defends it easily. Gummidge stopping the sweep attempt from Harris. Gummidge looking to sit in guard and control but Harris gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Gummidge is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Harris defends well. Harris drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Gummidge dives on top into guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gummidge tries to free his leg and advance position but Harris is retaining full guard. Gummidge throwing strikes from guard but Harris blocks nicely. Gummidge content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Harris has locked up a guillotine! Harris's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Gummidge is holding on here and Harris must be using up a lot of energy. Gummidge has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Harris gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:41 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Neil Patrick Harris! After winning the bout, Neil Patrick Harris thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
