PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Paul Nomak (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Josh Levan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Paul Nomak!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Josh Levan!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Yuuki Gou and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Levan tries to clinch but Nomak moves out of range.
Levan misses with a jab, cross combination.
Levan shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Nomak as he avoids it easily.
Levan misses with a series of wild punches.
Left hook, right uppercut from Levan.
Nomak fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Levan has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
A jab from Levan misses.
Levan lands a head kick. Nomak smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Nomak slips under a jab.
Nomak scores with a kick to the body.
Josh Levan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Levan on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Nomak. Nomak obviously looking to wear him down.
Nomak connects with a leg kick. Levan looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Nomak fails to land the takedown.
The fight stays on the outside here - Levan looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Levan pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Nomak back to the cage. Levan follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

Nomak chopping away at his opponent's legs.
No joy there for Levan, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Nomak takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.


It looks like Paul Nomak has been cut.
Levan punishes Nomak's body with a nice straight punch.

Nomak lands with a thumping leg kick.
Nomak is looking to slow Levan down with leg kicks.
Nomak displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Levan.
Good exchange - Levan coming out on top.

and Nomak counters with a good low kick that Levan was not able to check.

Nomak doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Levan throws a left and a right that both miss
and Nomak counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Nice takedown defense from Nomak. No joy for Levan on that attempt.
Paul Nomak has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Josh Levan.

and Nomak counters with a head kick.

Nomak fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Levan sprawls well initially but Nomak persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Nomak's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Nomak tries to stand and escape but Levan is controlling the position.
Nomak is figuring out what he wants to do next.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Paul Nomak just wasn't active enough.
Levan throws a lazy head kick
and Nomak counters with a head kick.
Levan throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Nomak chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Nomak blocks a head kick by Levan.
Nomak lands a slapping body shot.
Levan lands a jab-cross combination.
A nice inside leg kick there by Nomak. That's going to slow Levan down.
Levan throws a hook to the side of Nomak's head but Nomak sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Nomak throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Levan tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Nomak is in Levan's guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Nomak is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Josh Levan will probably get the nod.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

and Nomak counters with a nice leg kick.
Levan tries to close the distance and clinch but Nomak swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Nomak uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Levan.
Nomak is trying hard to land a takedown here. Levan sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Levan throws a nice looking combination but Nomak bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
A nice inside leg kick there by Nomak. That's going to slow Levan down.
Nomak shoots in for a takedown but Levan shows good takedown defense.
Levan will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Levan is breathing heavily.
Nomak throws a nice inside leg kick.

Levan is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Levan tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Nomak shoots in but no luck this time.

Levan rushes Nomak and presses him up against the cage.

Nomak gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Levan.
Nomak has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Levan is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Levan escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Nomak bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Levan's head.
Nomak lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

and Nomak counters with a nice kick to the body.

Levan shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Nomak counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Levan takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.
Nomak scores with a nice body kick.
Nomak connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Levan takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Levan's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
Nomak feints a jab promting Levan to slip. Nomak then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Levan slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

Levan tries to sprawl but Nomak drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Nomak looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Levan wants to get back to his feet.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Nomak uses his free foot to push down on Levan's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Levan.
Nomak controlling his opponent.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Levan is working to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Nomak thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Levan if he has to take too many more of those.
Levan throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Nomak counters with a low kick, right behind Levan 's knee.
Levan wants to clinch.

Levan moves into the clinch.

Levan escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Paul Nomak is winning the standup battle so far.

Levan gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Levan is looking for a triangle but Nomak pushes his legs off easily.
Levan takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Levan wants to control the position but Nomak says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

Levan is looking to improve his position.
Nomak controlling the action here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Nomak seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Levan for as long as he can get away with.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Levan shoots in but no luck this time.
Levan shoots for a takedown but Nomak saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
A head kick misses from Levan.
Nomak throws a right and a left that Levan avoids nicely.
Nice body kick there by Nomak.
Nomak lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Nomak lands with a thumping leg kick.
Levan has developed a nice purple lump on his ribcage, as a result of some heavy body kicks from Nomak.

Nomak throws a head kick that Levan semi-blocks.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Nomak.
Levan on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Nomak. Nomak obviously looking to wear him down.
Nomak scores with a spinning back kick!
Levan throws a sloppy head kick
and Nomak counters with a nice leg kick.
Nomak with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Nomak scores with a nice body kick.
Nomak throws a nice inside leg kick.

Nomak shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Nomak performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Levan is trying to stand.
Nomak is figuring out what he wants to do next.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Nomak stands up and beckons Levan to join him on the feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Nomak throws a head kick that Levan semi-blocks.
Levan doesn't manage to clinch there - Nomak circles away.

And that's the end of the fight!
Paul Nomak showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Nomak has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
