The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rexar looks to land a combination but Matsuo avoids it well.
Rexar blocks the body kick.
Matsuo forces Rexar back against the cage and clinches.
Rexar has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Matsuo after a bit of a struggle.
Rexar tries to score a body lock takedown but Matsuo shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Our sources have told us that Matsuo has been working on his elbows in the gym.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Matsuo has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Matsuo is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Rexar shoots for a double leg takedown but Matsuo sprawls well. He's pushed Rexar's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
