Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jay Matsuo! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Tyler Rexar! The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Daniel Cesar and Mauricio Rocha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rexar looks to land a combination but Matsuo avoids it well. Rexar blocks the body kick.
Matsuo forces Rexar back against the cage and clinches. Rexar has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Matsuo after a bit of a struggle. Rexar tries to score a body lock takedown but Matsuo shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Our sources have told us that Matsuo has been working on his elbows in the gym. Rexar can't get the takedown.
Jay Matsuo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tyler Rexar. Matsuo has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Rexar regains guard immediately. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Rexar looking to control.

Jay Matsuo has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. No luck with that takedown attempt from Matsuo. Matsuo looking to score a takedown here. Rexar is defending well but Matsuo drives through and ends up in Rexar's guard. Matsuo gets to his feet. Rexar looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Matsuo shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Rexar napping and manages to drive through into side control! We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Matsuo stands up and beckons Rexar to his feet. Matsuo takes the fight into the clinch. Matsuo is defending well against a takedown attempt.

Rexar has his hands on Matsuo's head, controlling the position. Rexar controls Matsuo momentarily but Matsuo frees himself. Matsuo stands and throws Rexar's legs to the side, diving into side control. Matsuo tries to move into full mount but can't pass Rexar's legs.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Matsuo with the ground and pound but Rexar regains half guard under the barage of strikes. Matsuo decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet. Matsuo closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Matsuo lands in his opponent's guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Matsuo pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Rexar is keeping the position for now. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Rexar wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Matsuo is now in half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jay Matsuo dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

and Matsuo counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Rexar gets caught napping as Matsuo dives in and scores a takedown. Rexar manages to retain guard. Jay Matsuo overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Matsuo is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Rexar really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Matsuo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Rexar looking to control.
Matsuo stands and steps away. Rexar gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Some wild striking there from Rexar.

That's one minute gone in the round. Rexar working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Matsuo. Matsuo controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Matsuo is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Rexar keeping moving, preventing Matsuo from controlling successfully. Matsuo is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Matsuo has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Jay Matsuo. Sloppy strikes from Rexar. Those never looked like landing. Matsuo closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Matsuo lands in his opponent's guard. Rexar preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Matsuo is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Matsuo works a leg free and moves into half guard. Rexar has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Matsuo is working away from the top position though. Matsuo not doing much here.
Matsuo looks to land a strike but Rexar avoids it nicely and regains full guard. Rexar wants to sweep but no luck. Rexar looking to control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Matsuo showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Matsuo gets to his feet. Rexar looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Rexar fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Matsuo manages to avoid it. Nice sprawl there from Matsuo as Rexar shoots in. Matsuo shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Rexar manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Matsuo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rexar swivels though and keeps the full guard. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Matsuo is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jay Matsuo dominated that second round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! And we move into the final round!

Rexar takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards. Matsuo looks for a takedown but Rexar sprawls well. Matsuo changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Rexar tries to avoid it but Matsuo manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Rexar to the ground. Rexar escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Rexar defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Matsuo. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jay Matsuo. That's going to take a lot out of him. A big left from Rexar misses. Rexar shoots for a double leg takedown but Matsuo sprawls well. He's pushed Rexar's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rexar misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Rexar takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Matsuo throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Rexar loads up on a big right hand but Matsuo slips the punch. Matsuo closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Rexar did well to prevent Matsuo getting side control. Matsuo controlling the action here. Matsuo is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Rexar sees it coming and defends easily. Matsuo sitting and controlling from the half guard.

Matsuo closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Rexar's guard. Matsuo is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Matsuo sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Rexar's guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Matsuo not landing any meaningful shots this time. Matsuo controlling the action here. Matsuo's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. This has been an exciting period of action! Matsuo passes to full mount! Matsuo is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Rexar can do to turn this around? As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Rexar is flailing around like a fish out of water, trying to land strikes.
