PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Isreal Franks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jerry Pacquiao (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pacquiao has chosen Lahing Pinoy as his entrance music. Franks has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jerry Pacquiao!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Viktor Lagutenko and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pacquiao works over Franks's head and body with a nice combination.
Pacquiao misses with the combination.

Pacquiao shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Franks is trying to defend but Pacquiao finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Franks is breathing heavily.

Franks is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Pacquiao pulls his head out easily.
Franks misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Pacquiao really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Franks. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Franks actively working from the bottom here.

Franks is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Pacquiao pulls his head out easily.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pacquiao wants to free his trapped foot but Franks is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Franks could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Pacquiao wants to lay and pray for a moment but Franks keeps working.

Pacquiao is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Franks defends it well.
Pacquiao seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Franks does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Pacquiao tries to stand but can't do so whilst Franks controls his leg.

Pacquiao is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Franks looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Franks throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Pacquiao is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Pacquiao seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Franks does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Franks is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

Pacquiao wants to finish this one by submission but Franks is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Pacquiao.
Pacquiao unloads with some shots from mount but Franks bucks and avoids them well.

Franks avoids a punch combination nicely.
Pacquiao swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Pacquiao drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Franks stops Pacquiao from passing to mount.
Franks is looking for a sweep.

Pacquiao wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Franks, who protects the arm well.
Pacquiao throws an elbow but Franks slips to the side and avoids it well.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Pacquiao laying and praying for a moment but Franks takes advantage and regains half guard.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Jerry Pacquiao hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Pacquiao changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Franks looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Pacquiao tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Pacquiao sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Franks is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

Pacquiao is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Franks knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Pacquiao wants to control but Franks is keeping him busy.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Pacquiao thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Pacquiao tries to stand but Franks is controlling his head.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jerry Pacquiao showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Pacquiao looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Pacquiao looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Pacquiao trying to control the action but Franks is working from the bottom.

Pacquiao is working for a submission of some sort.
Pacquiao wants to advance to full mount but Franks doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Pacquiao trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Franks escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Pacquiao gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Pacquiao stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Franks swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Pacquiao with a flurry of punches that miss.
Pacquiao postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Franks has a closed guard, preventing Pacquiao from standing up.
Pacquiao wants to pass the guard but Franks is keeping the position.
Franks will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Pacquiao wants to control from the top but Franks keeps moving.

Jerry Pacquiao comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Pacquiao has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
