Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 4 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
15 - 10 - 0, fighting out of New York, Hendrik Daross! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Christian Hackenburg! The judges for this bout are James Atkins, William Gold and Sam Margolis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hackenburg misses with a body shot.
Hackenburg avoids a low kick by using good footwork. Hackenburg misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Daross.
Hackenburg swats away the attempt to clinch by Daross. Daross on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. A swing and a miss from Hackenburg. The fighters circle momentarily. Daross darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. Hackenburg throws a body kick that misses. Daross lands with a kick to the ribs.
Hendrik Daross seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Daross moves in looking to clinch but Hackenburg pushes him off. Daross looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it. Hackenburg avoids the head kick by Daross.
Donk. Daross catches Hackenburg right on the button with a cross. Daross is looking to land body kicks. A head kick by Daross misses and Hackenburg counters with a nice double leg into side control. Daross won't be happy with that. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Daross parries the strikes from Hackenburg easily there. Hackenburg is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Daross to escape.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hackenburg throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Hackenburg tries to move to mount but Daross blocks the move with his legs. Hackenburg lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Daross down.
Hackenburg tries to move into full mount but can't pass Daross's legs. Daross avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Hackenburg. In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Hackenburg working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though. That's two minutes gone in the round. Hackenburg advances to full mount. Hackenburg scoring with strikes but Daross is staying in there. Hackenburg has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Daross is bucking up trying to escape but Hackenburg cracks him with another couple of good strikes. Hackenburg raining down hammerfists from mount. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Hackenburg lands a nice shot to the head. Daross takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! Hackenburg's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Christian Hackenburg! A relieved looking Christian Hackenburg thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
