PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Payton Strader (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Furry Warrior (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Payton Strader!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Furry Warrior!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Trevor Gratis and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Strader takes a swing at Warrior's ribcage but misses.
Strader tries a head kick but it misses.

Warrior closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Warrior lands in his opponent's guard.
Strader wants to get back to his feet but Warrior is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Warrior gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Warrior throws a head kick that misses.
Horrible takedown by Warrior or perhaps it was just good defense by Strader which made him look bad.
A jab from Strader finds it's way through Warrior's defenses.


It looks like Furry Warrior has been cut.

Warrior closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the ropes.
Strader lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Strader is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Warrior is keeping busy.

Warrior manages to break the clinch.
Strader swings for the body but Warrior moves out of range.
Payton Strader seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A big right from Strader misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Warrior throws a head kick that misses.
Warrior keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Horrible takedown by Warrior or perhaps it was just good defense by Strader which made him look bad.
Warrior tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Strader paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Strader misses with a body shot.
Strader throws an overhand right that lands on Warrior's shoulder, as Warrior tries to avoid the shot.
Strader smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Warrior tries to close the distance and clinch but Strader swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Warrior feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Strader is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Warrior wants to get up but he can't break Strader's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Warrior throws a strike but Strader rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Warrior tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Strader sitting in guard here, content to control.

Warrior had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Strader is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Warrior Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Strader's back instead.
Warrior looks gassed!
Strader is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Warrior softening up his opponent with strikes here.
Strader covering up well under a series of strikes from Warrior.

Strader is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Warrior gets his way!

Strader is trying to get back to his feet but Warrior has full control of the position and if anything, Strader has just worked his way into a worse spot.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Strader trying to control the hands but Warrior breaks the grip.
Warrior tries to get the hooks in deep but Strader pushed the leg off.
Warrior looking to soften up his opponent with punches.
Strader trying to control but not successfully.
Warrior scores with punches and elbows.
Strader is trying to stand back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Payton Strader will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Furry Warrior's cut.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Strader thows a body shot but no joy.

Warrior drives through and clinches with Strader against the ropes.
Warrior fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Warrior tries to pull guard but Strader holds him up against the ropes and eventually Warrior drops back down to his feet.

Warrior breaks the clinch.
Nice takedown defense from Strader. No joy for Warrior on that attempt.
Payton Strader has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Furry Warrior.
Strader throws out a loose jab but Warrior uses good head movement to avoid it.

Warrior scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Strader is pushing Warrior's head away, looking to escape. Warrior manages to hold on to the position though.
Strader manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Warrior trying to control from half guard but Strader is working away.
Warrior is breathing heavily.
Strader is looking to escape.

Strader is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Warrior pulls his head out easily.
Warrior slips a nice elbow through Strader's hands, connecting with Strader's forehead.
Strader looks like he's trying to stand up.
Warrior wants to stand but Strader has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Warrior wants to control but Strader is keeping him busy.

Warrior is working for a submission of some sort.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Strader throws a lazy head kick

and Warrior holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Strader manages to break the clinch.
Strader looks to land a right hand but Warrior moved out of range.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Warrior blocks a jab.

Warrior bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Warrior wants to control but Strader is keeping him busy.
Strader manages to get back to half guard.
Warrior prevents Strader from standing back up.
Strader is trying to get back to full guard.
Strader striking from half guard on the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Warrior thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Warrior throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Strader stuffs the takedown.
Strader closes this distance looking for a takedown but Warrior circles away.

Strader gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Warrior trying to control but Strader is working from the bottom.

Strader pushes Warrior off and gets back to his feet.
Strader uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Warrior has time to react.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The fighters circling - Strader throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Warrior moves into the clinch.
Warrior jumps guard but Strader stands there with Warrior around his waist. Warrior gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Warrior has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Strader is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Strader escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Warrior drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Strader wants to stand but Warrior is controlling the position.
Warrior wants to get up but he can't break Strader's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Warrior lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Strader wriggles free and stands up.
Warrior shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Strader as he jumps to the side.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Furry Warrior showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Furry Warrior's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Strader closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Strader stuffs the takedown attempt from Warrior. Warrior gets slowly back to his feet.
Strader pushing out the jab but it's not landing.

Warrior shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Strader has one foot on Warrior's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Warrior throws a body punch but Strader moves out of range.
Warrior wants to clinch.
Strader tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Strader has his takedown stuffed
and Warrior counters with a two punch combo.

Warrior shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Strader as he avoids it easily.

and Warrior holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Strader is looking to break free of the clinch but Warrior has double underhooks.
Warrior changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Strader fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Payton Strader has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Furry Warrior.
Strader throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Warrior fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Strader sprawls well initially but Warrior persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Strader throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Warrior prevents Strader from standing back up.
Warrior is looking to take a break and control but Strader is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Strader is trying to stand up here but Warrior is controlling him well.
Warrior keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Furry Warrior has got the better of the ground game so far.
Strader is trying to stand back up but Warrior is controlling him

Strader pushes Warrior off looking to stand but Warrior dives back in and keeps control.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Warrior darts in and clinches Strader up against the ropes.

Warrior tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Strader throws out a loose jab but Warrior uses good head movement to avoid it.

Warrior shoots in but no luck this time.
Strader fails with the takedown

and Warrior counters by clinching up.
Warrior is trying to stall.

Strader tightens his grip and picks Warrior up, before dumping him to the ground. Warrior manages to land in guard.

Strader gets to his feet - Warrior follows without any prompting.

Warrior fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Strader, pushing him back against the ropes.
Strader has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Warrior avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Warrior is working for a takedown up against the ropes. He can't get it on this occasion though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Warrior escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Strader fails with an attempt to clinch.
Strader misses with a telegraphed body shot

and Warrior counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Warrior scoring with some ground and pound.

Strader has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Warrior off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Warrior fails with the takedown.
Warrior tries a low kick but Strader avoids it.
Strader shoots and misses

and Warrior counters with a nice double leg into side control. Strader won't be happy with that.
Strader on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Strader tries to get out of the position.
Strader managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Warrior.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Strader throwing some weak shots from the bottom that do no damage.
Strader tries to escape but Warrior is in control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Furry Warrior comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Warrior has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
