PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Rudy Mercer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Evert Bosma (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bosma comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Eye of the Tiger kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Evert Bosma will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Evert Bosma!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Dillan Fox and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bosma tries to close the distance and clinch up but Mercer swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Nice sprawl there from Bosma as Mercer shoots in.
Mercer stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Mercer wants it to stay on the feet.

Bosma scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Mercer is trying to get back to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bosma is looking to take a break and control but Mercer is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Mercer really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Bosma drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Mercer dives on top into guard.

Mercer postures up in Bosma's guard and throws a big left but Bosma blocks it.
Bosma has control of Mercer's left arm, preventing Mercer from doing any damage.

Bosma is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Mercer drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Bosma manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Mercer has Bosma in his guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Mercer has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Bosma bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Mercer's guard.

Bosma drops back, looking for a kneebar! Mercer looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Mercer looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Mercer!

A lull in the action here as Mercer stalls from top position.

Mercer is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Bosma is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Mercer connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Bosma some visible discomfort.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Bosma misses with a takedown attempt - Mercer sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Bosma shoots in looking for a takedown. Mercer tries to sprawl out of it but Bosma keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Mercer manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Bosma shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Mercer as he jumps to the side.
Rudy Mercer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Evert Bosma.

Bosma closes this distance looking for a takedown but Mercer circles away.
Bosma takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Bosma shoots in but Mercer avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Mercer fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.

Mercer fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Bosma avoids it really well and circles away.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Mercer.

Mercer will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Mercer lands a nice short elbow.
Mercer throwing shots but Bosma is blocking nicely.
Bosma is trying to maintain the position but Mercer is very close to passing his half guard.
Well, if Mercer is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Bosma shoots in looking for a takedown but Mercer manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Bosma's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Rudy Mercer showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Mercer has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
