Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Vernon Cook!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Pew Pew!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Colin Fray and Chris Saunders.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A nice inside leg kick there by Cook. That's going to slow Pew down.
Cook misses the shot to the body.
Cook pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Cook swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Pew dives in and grabs Cook's left leg, looking for a takedown. Cook pushes down on Pew's head and hops out.
Pew tries to score a power double leg takedown but Cook sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Pew somewhat.
Pew bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
We've been told by Cook's head coaches at Kelley Fighting Systems that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Cook throws a right hand that Pew ducks under and follows up with a left that Pew also avoids with ease.
Pew shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Vernon Cook has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Pew Pew.
Cook misses with a body shot.
Cook is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Pew.
Cook throws a low kick but Pew moves out of range easily.
That's one minute gone in the round.
A clash of legs there as Pew blocks the low kick.
Cook stuffs the takedown attempt from Pew. Pew gets slowly back to his feet.
Cook lands a right hook to the body.

Vernon Cook seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cook displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Pew.
Pew shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Cook defends it nicely.
Pew is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Cook throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Cook's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Cook duly obliges.
Pew takes one to the side of the head.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Cook has the Thai clinch. He lands a big knee to the head that stumbles Pew - he's in trouble! Another big knee to the head from Cook, and another! Pew is out on his feet - the ref jumps in to save him and ends the fight!
