Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Chris Herzog (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexandre Nieto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Herzog comes to the cage accompanied by Takida - Curly Sue. Nieto has chosen Bullet the Blue Sky as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

23 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Alexandre Nieto! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Herzog throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Herzog takes a swing at Nieto's ribcage but misses. We've been informed that Nieto has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result. Herzog takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. Herzog connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. No luck for Herzog with that takedown attempt. Nieto throws a half hearted mid kick. Herzog closes this distance looking for a takedown but Nieto circles away. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Herzog. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chris Herzog. That's going to take a lot out of him. Herzog throws a shot from downtown. Nieto moves away and avoids it. Nieto goes for a double leg but Herzog avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Herzog continues to drive forward. Nieto swivels though and keeps the full guard. Nieto is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Herzog defends well. Herzog drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Herzog jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Nieto escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Herzog gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Herzog won't allow Nieto to sweep him here. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Nieto looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Nieto has his foot on Herzog's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Herzog works his way back into a safe position though. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ooooh, that looks tight… Nieto is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Nieto and Herzog has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
