Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marcelo Silva! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, William Henry Bonney! The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Seu Braga and Luis Engracia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bonney tries to sprawl but Silva drives through with a takedown into half guard. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Silva trying to mount his opponent but Bonney defends it. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Bonney is trying to get back to full guard. Bonney really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Silva. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Bonney keeps trying to improve his position. Bonney is not content to let Silva control the position. Silva wants to work for an arm triangle but Bonney is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Silva is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Bonney defends it well. Bonney tries to get to full guard but Silva has control of the leg. Bonney holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Bonney looks like he's trying to stand up.

That's one minute gone in the round. Bonney slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. Bonney is staying active underneath Silva, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Bonney tries to get to full guard but Silva has control of the leg. Bonney felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Silva missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Silva prevents Bonney from improving his position. Bonney moves into full guard.
Bonney keeping moving, preventing Silva from controlling successfully. Silva stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bonney swivels though and keeps the full guard. Silva slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bonney pulls Silva in close to prevent any damage. Silva drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Silva jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Bonney trying to keep a closed guard but Silva is proving a slippery customer.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Silva trying to control but Bonney is working from the bottom. Bonney bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Silva's guard. This has been an exciting period of action! Silva has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Bonney can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Silva looking for a guillotine here but Bonney defends easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Bonney preventing the sweep. Silva pushes a forearm under Bonney's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Bonney is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:53 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Marcelo Silva! In his post fight interview, Marcelo Silva started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
