Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
31 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Shane Waitzel! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
17 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Juan Velasquez! The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Chad Campbell and Franklyn Lucas.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Velasquez takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Velasquez throws a big shot that misses. Velasquez throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean. Waitzel feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Velasquezs jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
It looks like Juan Velasquez has been cut. Waitzel tries to close the distance and clinch but Velasquez swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Waitzel ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Velasquez moves away. Waitzel misses with a looping right. Velasquez steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Waitzel. Waitzel scores with the left hand. Velasquez knows he should have avoided that one. Velasquez takes a swing at Waitzel's ribcage but misses. Waitzel feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Velasquez sprawling to the canvas! Velasquez rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Waitzel finish him?!
Velasquez is rocked! This has been an exciting period of action! Waitzel fakes the body blow, causing Velasquez to drop his hands! Left hook to the temple! Velasquez goes stiff, and falls face first into the mat. Goodnight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:47 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Shane Waitzel! Shane Waitzel retains his heavyweight title! After winning the bout, Shane Waitzel thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
