PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Steve Hill (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Conor Murphy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Murphy comes into a darkened arena with his song building. I'm A Beast kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Steve Hill!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Conor Murphy!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Steve Erwin and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hill throws a head kick but Murphy moves out of range.
Murphy misses with a body kick.
Hill shoots for a double leg takedown but Murphy sprawls well. He's pushed Hill's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Hill throws a sloppy head kick and Murphy moves out of range easily.
Hill lands a front kick.
Murphy throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.

Murphy darts in and clinches Hill up against the cage.

Murphy lands a takedown into guard.

Hill is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Murphy trying to control the position from guard on top but Hill is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Hill has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Murphy can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Murphy trying to control but Hill is working from the bottom.

Murphy wants to stand but Hill is controlling his posture from full guard.
Murphy trying to control the position from guard on top but Hill is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Hill controlling the position.
Hill is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Hill has his hands on Murphy's head, controlling the position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Hill misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Hill tries to clinch

and Murphy counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Hill working a defensive guard here.
Hill will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Murphy advances position into side control!

Murphy swings around for an armbar but Hill sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Murphy's guard.

Hill stands up and waves to Murphy to follow him.
Hill is breathing heavily.
Murphy looks for a takedown but Hill sprawls well.

Murphy gets a takedown into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hill keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Hill is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Hill is working hard here to advance position.
Murphy prevents Hill from standing back up.

Murphy is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Hill tries to roll over but Murphy keeps him under control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Murphy wants to pass the guard but Hill is defending well.
Murphy is looking to take a break and control but Hill is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.

Hill gets a takedown into half guard.
Murphy gets full guard.
Hill won't allow Murphy to get back to his feet.
Murphy keeping full guard, as Hill tries to pass.
Hill in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Conor Murphy will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Murphy fails to land with a series of punches.
Hill tries to clinch

and Murphy counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Hill pulls Murphy in close to his closed guard and prevents Murphy from doing any damage or advancing position.
Hill manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
The referee warns Murphy that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Murphy tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hill landing strikes, looking to finish!
Hill looking to control but Murphy is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Murphy working to try and regain half guard.
Murphy is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

Hill looking to isolate an arm here. Murphy doesn't see it coming and as Hill extends the arm, he's forced to tap out! Nice submission by Hill!
