PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Xavier Hunter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Knut Paulsen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Paulsen has chosen Beyond the Permafrost as his entrance music. Knut Paulsen will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Xavier Hunter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Knut Paulsen!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Daniel Blasius and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Paulsen goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Paulsen takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Hunter lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Paulsen misses with a shot to the body

and Hunter counters with a nice double leg into guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Paulsen looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hunter is one step ahead there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hunter trying to control but Paulsen is working from the bottom.
Hunter trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Paulsen keeping moving, preventing Hunter from controlling successfully.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Hunter has gone for a leg lock! Paulsen slips out almost immediately though and dives into Hunter's guard.

Hunter is looking for a triangle but Paulsen pushes his legs off easily.
Hunter is trying to control the position but Paulsen postures up.

Paulsen passes into half guard.

Hunter is refusing to be controlled, as Paulsen sits in half guard.

Paulsen is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Hunter wants to improve his position but Paulsen is controlling well.
Hunter makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Hunter.

Hunter working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Paulsen doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Paulsen manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Paulsen is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Paulsen in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Hunter looking to control.
Paulsen slips nicely into half guard.

Paulsen is working for a kimura but Hunter is defending it quite comfortably.
Hunter slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Paulsen showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Paulsen stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hunter swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Paulsen not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Paulsen trying to control the position from guard on top but Hunter is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Paulsen pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Hunter is keeping the position for now.

Hunter looking for a guillotine here but Paulsen defends easily.

Paulsen throwing strikes but missing.

Hunter is looking for a triangle here but Paulsen uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
A lull in the action here.
Paulsen wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hunter keeps working.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Paulsen is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Hunter knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Hunter is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Paulsen's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Xavier Hunter will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action!



Hunter shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Hunter pushes down on Paulsen's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Paulsen is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Hunter's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Hunter's back!

Hunter trying to control the position but Paulsen manages to sink in the hooks.

Paulsen is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

Paulsen has managed to slip his arm under Hunter's chin. This could be all over... yep, Hunter is tapping out! Submission win for Paulsen.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Knut Paulsen!
A relieved looking Knut Paulsen thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
The defeated Xavier Hunter had this to say: 'I want to thank my Lord and savior Jesus Christ, without him non of this is possible. I also want to thanks my fans for their awesome support. I love you guys!!! I will come back better!'.
