PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Anton Chigurh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jensen Maint (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chigurh comes to the cage accompanied by Paul Oakenfold - Ready Steady Go (Korean Style) . These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Anton Chigurh!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Jensen Maint!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Paul Aken and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Chigurh rushes Maint and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Maint drops down looking for an ankle pick but Chigurh pulls his leg out and moves away.
Maint shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Chigurh pinned against the cage. Chigurh gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Maint throws a head kick but Chigurh moves out of range.

Chigurh drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Maint is adopting a defensive guard.
Chigurh would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Chigurh with a flurry of punches that miss.

Chigurh trying to control the position from guard on top but Maint is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Chigurh postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Chigurh drops back looking for a leg! Maint is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Maint manages to kick Chigurh off! Chigurh jumps back into Maint's guard.

Chigurh has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Chigurh postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Maint is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Chigurh, into his guard.

Chigurh seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Maint postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Maint passes Chigurh's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Chigurh wants to get back to full guard.
Chigurh is trying to stand.
Chigurh is trying to maintain the position but Maint is very close to passing his half guard.
Chigurh is staying active underneath Maint, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

We're going to have a standup here because Anton Chigurh wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Chigurh forces Maint back against the cage and clinches.

The referee is keeping an eye on Maint - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Maint jumps guard but Chigurh turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Anton Chigurh has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jensen Maint.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
A frustrated look appears on Chigurh's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Chigurh drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Maint gets the underhooks and prevents it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Maint closes the distance and clinches up with Chigurh, looking for a takedown. Maint pushes Chigurh against the cage but Chigurh circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Chigurh takes the fight into the clinch.

Maint pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Chigurh closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Chigurh lands in his opponent's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Chigurh drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Chigurh jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Chigurh is working Maint over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Maint can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Chigurh controls the pace.

Maint has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Chigurh is proving hard to escape from.

Maint won't allow Chigurh to sweep him here.
Maint not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Chigurh is pulling down on Maint's head to control his posture.
Chigurh lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Maint!

Chigurh manages to capitalize on a mistake by Maint to take his back!

Chigurh is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

Chigurh is trying to stick to Maint's back but Maint is turning into Chigurh. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Chigurh's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Maint.
Chigurh seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
Maint passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Maint stands up and beckons Chigurh to his feet.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Maint goes for a double leg but Chigurh avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Chigurh continues to drive forward.

Anton Chigurh has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jensen Maint.
Maint is breathing heavily.

Chigurh escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Chigurh clinches up with Maint and pushes him back against the cage.
Chigurh has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Maint is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Maint breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Chigurh scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Chigurh throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Maint tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Chigurh is in Maint's guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


The fight stays on the outside here - Chigurh looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Maint really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Chigurh. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Anton Chigurh.

Maint tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Chigurh manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Chigurh gets a double leg takedown into Maint's guard.
Chigurh chips away with some ground and pound.

Chigurh stays in close to Maint's body and controls the position.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Chigurh avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Chigurh connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Maint's hands.
Anton Chigurh is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Maint is still on wobbly legs! Can Chigurh finish him?
Maint walks straight into a right hand from Chigurh - that's dropped him! Chigurh jumps into mount and starts pounding away - can he finish?! More strikes go undefended and the referee has to dive in to save Maint from any more punishment! Maint complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:18 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Anton Chigurh!
Anton Chigurh seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
