Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Shealtiel Miller! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Nate Ross! The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Colin Fray and Roger Salmon.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Miller tries to score a power double leg takedown but Ross sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Miller somewhat. Miller shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Ross defends it nicely. Ross misses with a few strikes there.
Ross looks to throw the jab but Miller is out of range. Miller walks into a stiff left hand from Ross. Miller shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Ross defends it nicely. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shealtiel Miller. That's going to take a lot out of him. Ross clinches up with Miller and pushes him back against the cage. Ross manages to break the clinch.
Miller manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Ross on his heels. He'll look to pass Ross's guard now, I'm sure. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Miller is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Ross wants to stand and escape but Miller is having none of it. Miller drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Miller jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Miller slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ross is not content to let Miller control the position. Ross is trying to buck Miller off. Miller has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Ross is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Miller yanks on the arm and Ross is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Miller.
