Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Noah Mayo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Justin Powell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Justin Powell has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Noah Mayo's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Noah Mayo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Justin Powell!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Frank Dennis and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Powell throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Mayo tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Powell is in Mayo's guard.
Powell controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Mayo has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Powell is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Mayo.
Powell looking to control but instead Mayo has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.
Powell is looking to advance position but Mayo won't allow it.
Powell working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Mayo's thigh. Mayo counters though and makes it back to full guard.

Mayo doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Powell would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Mayo keeping moving, preventing Powell from controlling successfully.
Mayo thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Mayo is working an open guard so Powell takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Powell gets the takedown into side control.
Powell postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Powell lands some shots froms side control.
Mayo is trying to get back to half guard.
Mayo wants to get back to his feet but Powell drags him back down.
Powell wants to control for a moment but Mayo uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.

Mayo is refusing to be controlled, as Powell sits in half guard.
Powell is nestled in close to Mayo, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Mayo is looking to improve his position.

Powell is trying to control. Mayo wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Justin Powell hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Powell closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Powell is working for a kimura but Mayo is defending it quite comfortably.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Mayo is trying to get back to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Mayo fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Powell avoids it really well and circles away.

Powell fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Mayo to the ground. Powell is now in Mayo's guard.

Mayo looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Powell wants to pass the guard but Mayo is keeping the position.

Mayo really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Powell drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Mayo manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Powell has Mayo in his guard.
Powell not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Mayo will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Powell looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Mayo accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Powell pulls Mayo in close to prevent any damage.
Mayo throws a strike but Powell rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Powell controlling from the top position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Noah Mayo dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Mayo tries to clinch up but Powell circles away and keeps his distance.

Mayo gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Mayo throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Powell must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Mayo thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Powell looking to sit in guard and control but Mayo gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Mayo cracks Powell with a solid left hand.

Mayo chips away with some ground and pound.
Mayo lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Powell has momentary wrist control but Mayo slips an elbow through the middle.
Powell is trying to keep Mayo in close.
Mayo lands a couple of elbows.
Powell trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Powell preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Mayo throws a big elbow that misses.
Mayo won't allow Powell to get back to his feet.
Mayo in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Mayo has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Mayo got a little sloppy there for a moment and Powell has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Mayo has managed to get both his arms back between Powell's legs - danger averted.
Powell takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Mayo landing with the ground and pound.
Mayo keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Powell's head.

Mayo avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Mayo is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Mayo loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Mayo's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Mayo gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Mayo closes the distance and clinches up with Powell, looking for a takedown. Mayo pushes Powell against the cage but Powell circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
A head kick by Powell misses
and Mayo counters with a stiff right hand.

Mayo shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Mayo thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Powell's head.
Mayo is nestled in close to Powell, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Powell keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Powell kicks Mayo off and gets back to his feet.

Powell clinches.

Mayo breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Powell shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Mayo makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Mayo.
Powell wants to stand but Mayo has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Powell looking to sit in guard and control but Mayo gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

And that's the end of the fight!
Noah Mayo showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Mayo has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
