Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Diego Brandao! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mikey Moo! The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Hugh Johnson and Eliza Hachem.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Brandao drives through with a takedown into Moo's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Brandao throws a big right hand that misses. Moo preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Brandao missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Brandao distracts Moo with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Moo is trying to control the position but Brandao postures up. Brandao has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Brandao postures up in Moo's guard and throws a big left but Moo blocks it. Moo tries to land a sweep but no joy. Brandao throwing strikes but missing. Brandao throwing strikes from guard but Moo blocks nicely. Moo trying to control the position here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Brandao is looking to work some ground and pound but Moo has wrist control. Brandao trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Brandao postures up in Moo's guard and throws a big left but Moo blocks it. Brandao postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Brandao preventing the sweep. Our spies down at at Madz inform us that Moo has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off? Moo avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Brandao trying to control but Moo is working from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Moo pulls Brandao in close to his closed guard and prevents Brandao from doing any damage or advancing position. Moo is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Brandao throws an elbow that misses. Moo uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Brandao's guard. Nice move by Moo! Brandao throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Brandao is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Moo has his hands clasped together but Brandao extends and breaks Moo's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Brandao.
